We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Optical Lab Technician to join our state-of-the-art optical laboratory. In this role, you will play a vital part in producing custom eyewear by grinding, edging, and assembling lenses and frames to exact specifications. This position requires technical precision, efficiency, and a passion for quality in a fast-paced lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
Grind, polish, and edge lenses to match prescriptions using manual and automated machinery.
Assemble eyewear components, including frames, lenses, and fittings, ensuring durability and comfort.
Perform quality control inspections to verify accuracy, alignment, and optical standards.
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including lens surfacing machines, edgers, and tinting systems.
Process incoming orders from dispensers and optometrists, prioritising urgent requests.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues to minimise delays.
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe lab workspace in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Collaborate with the dispensing team to provide feedback on product performance and improvements.
Track inventory of lab supplies and report shortages to management.
Stay updated on advancements in lens materials, coatings, and fabrication techniques.
Requirements
Previous experience in an optical lab or similar manufacturing role (1+ years preferred).
Technical aptitude with hands-on experience in lens fabrication and eyewear assembly.
Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements and quality checks.
Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented lab setting.
Knowledge of optical prescriptions, lens types (e.g., single vision, progressive), and frame materials (training provided if needed).
Certification in optical laboratory techniques (e.g., from the ABO or equivalent) is a plus but not mandatory.
Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and order management software.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle delicate equipment.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to lab protocols.
