Purpose of the Role
The Practitioner will support the Out of School Manager by creating a caring, secure environment through individual attention and a range of well-planned and supervised activities, in line with government guidelines. The role involves following the manager's direction to help the service operate at its highest potential.
Main Responsibilities
Plan, prepare, and deliver a creative and engaging programme of activities tailored to the needs and interests of the children
Monitor and evaluate how the service is delivered
Ensure safe transportation of children from school to the care service
Keep relevant records and produce written reports, following agreed procedures
Supervise and care for children, ensuring activities are conducted safely and responsibly according to statutory guidelines
Develop and maintain effective communication with parents, carers, and other involved parties to support daily care needs
Encourage parental involvement by building strong working relationships
Consult with children and involve them in planning activities
Complete risk assessments before starting activities with children
Actively promote and support safeguarding, ensuring all staff and volunteers follow policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm
Requirements
Hold a recognised childcare qualification eligible for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council
Demonstrate working knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence
Promote good practice and deliver high-quality care
Be familiar with current legislation and best practice guidance
Comply with legal duties under the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 and the Health and Social Care Standards
