Role: Centre Manager/Development Manager

Location: Twechar Outdoor Pursuit Centre

Salary: 33000 to 36000 based on experience and qualifications.

An exciting opportunity has come up to be part of the brand-new Twechar Outdoor Pursuit Centre. The centre is based on the Forth and Clyde canal and has lots of options for local activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, cycling and much more.

The centre is part of the Social Enterprise/Development Trust Twechar Community Action and the role will be focused on both supporting and creating opportunities for the local community and a commercial offering to support the ongoing running and development of the centre for the local community.

In this role you will be supported by the board of trustees, a technical advisor and a team of qualified youth workers to get you started and hit the ground running.

The role will have 2 very clear focuses, one being the daily operations of the centre where you will be in charge of the overall health and safety and instructor deployment. The other will be in a development role supporting the centre to go from opening into becoming a critical part of the local community and outdoor industry as a whole.

Experience and a clear knowledge of AALA, school programmes and development work will be key to success in this role. Candidates are expected to have a minimum of a Sheltered Water Coach (Kayak, Kayak & Canoe, SUP or both), a 2-day first aid and cycle ride leader or equivalent with bushcraft and team building experience a big plus.

As this role will be with working in a regulated role the candidate will need to go through the PVG scheme before starting any role.

Daily Operations Management



? In charge of daily operations of the outdoor pursuits centre

? Staff rotas and deployment of instructors and freelancers

Customer Journey & Feedback



? To ensure all instructing staff understand responsibilities and how to ensure the best customer journey

? Work with the instructor team to continually build the product and develop the outdoor pursuits centre based on customer feedback.

? Ensure systems are in place around equipment and delivery to ensure a strong first and lasting impression on guests.

Marketing



? Support the social media lead to ensure a constant presence about the centre.

? Work with the appropriate person to ensure the website is kept relevant and up to date

? Engage with local groups and wide stakeholders to build the reputation and awareness of TOPC.

Health & Safety



? Ensure workspace is kept tidy and clear of wires where possible.

? Ensure all risk assessments and operating procedures are kept up to date and the practice & procedures of the centre match.

? Ensure all incidents and near misses are recorded and an annual incident report is completed

? Where appropriate report incidents to RIDDOR

? Complete monthly and annual equipment checks

? Complete equipment maintenance where required to ensure equipment is presentable and safe.

? Ensure annual PAT testing & Fire safety takes place

Delivery



? Happy and ready to deliver a variety of sessions to meet the centres need.

? Have experience delivering both taster and development sessions

? Identify areas for development within delivery

Culture



? Maintain a can do and positive attitude at all times

? Support team to be happy within their roles

? Ensure the centre is kept as environmentally friendly as possible

Line management responsibilities



? Annual performance reviews of instructor team

? Grievance & Performance management

? Managing sick and holiday leave

Development



? Be ready to take on a new challenge and develop systems for working and packages for different groups.

? Identify new areas for growth both in terms of clientele and activity options.

? Create opportunities for locals to engage further in the centre.

? Create ongoing partnerships that will see the centre grow sustainably.

Training



? Work with Technical Advisor to ensure all staff are appropriately trained and signed off

? Ensure annual safety training is completed.

Qualification Requirements



? A minimum of BCAB Sheltered Water Coach in both SUP & Kayak

? A minimum of Cycle ride leader

? Experience in delivering a variety of activities including bushcraft, team building and orienteering

? 2 Day First Aid Training

? BCAB Moderate water leader or Coach award

Desirable:

? BCAB Touring Leader

Qualification in Bushcraft

? MBL2

? SPA/ RCI

? IOSH Managing Safety Award

Experience required



? A minimum of 2 years in a similar people management role

? Experience of leading, managing and developing a team.

? A clear understanding around Health & Safety in the outdoors

? Experience and understanding of AALA

? Development work experience

Desirable:

? Experience in project management

? Mentoring experience

? Experience of working within the charity sector

? Experience of managing a budget

? Understanding of reporting
