Role Summary

As the Senior Staff Nurse in Outpatient Unit - you are responsible for delivering outpatient nursing services to patients within the unit and to deputise for the Lead Outpatient Nurse where required.

Key areas for the role

Work in a clinical and service development capacity to ensure the service in outpatients is planned, delivered and evaluated in line with evidence-based practice.

Work closely with our multi-disciplinary team to help create and maintain a robust outpatient service whilst seamlessly incorporating other centre services such as diagnostic, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Provide, information and advice to patients who attend out patients

Provide support and information to patients to those patients who are diagnosed and receiving treatment for malignancies.

Reporting lines

As the Senior Staff Nurse, you report directly to the Clinic Manager. Your direct reports are all the nurse - outpatients

Reporting lines and direct reports may change from time to time in line with: the requirements of the role.

Your key responsibilities:

Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment

Assist with diagnostic procedures within the diagnostic clinics. Chaperone and assist consultants with minor procedures.

Organise and support Outpatient clinics.

Liaise closely with all Forbury Clinic Consultants.

Carry out nursing procedures such as wound dressings, removal of sutures, ECG's, blood tests (varying according to training and experience).

Implement and maintain the highest levels of evidence nursing based practice. Work within the Forbury Clinic's policies.

Practice immediate life support to facilitate rapid stabilisation and the appropriate on- going management of patients who develop acute treatment complications

Assist in the development and audit of assessment tools that will ensure an appropriate level of nursing intervention so that patients who present with the most complex needs are referred to the appropriated specialist including patients and families who require more in- depth support and counselling

Ensure all care is given in accordance with agreed protocols

Work in line with and contribute to local delivery of national care standards Ensure all patients are fully informed of the risks and benefits of proposed procedures/treatments, contributing to the process of securing informed consent Produce and provide all patients with relevant and accessible written information regarding their treatment

Supervise and participate in the delivery of programmes of education and training per the identified needs of clients, carers and other involved in their care

Lead on the specific areas of development of nursing practice within the team

To provide expert knowledge and advice in own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence underpinned by evidence-based practice.

Participate in clinical audit within the outpatient service, raising the profile and enhancing the contribution of nursing to patient care and informing business and service development plans

Utilise up to date research/evidence to deliver patient care and to disseminate this knowledge to all members of the multi-professional team

Fulfil the role of mentor, providing peer support to staff working within the outpatient services

Take responsibility for competency assessment or members of staff providing mentorship to junior staff

Comply with measures to actively manage and reduce risk to patients, ensuring the formal reporting and recording of adverse incidents

Ensure that confidentiality of information is adhered to and NMC standards for 'record keeping' are met

Participate in the evaluation of the service in terms of clinical effectiveness, clinical excellence and cost benefit

Identify areas of practice that require review or adaption to meet the changing needs of patients Achieve a range of clinical competencies as required to fulfil the role

Keep up-to-date with current literature and research in the speciality

Maintain your own continuing personal and professional development in accordance with NMC requirements, The Forbury Clinic's expectations and business objectives.

Adhere to the NMC code of professional conduct working within and accepting responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of competence

Act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct for nurses, midwives and health visitors and scope of practice and be accountable for his/her actions at all times

Work out of hours to ensure that breakdowns or crises are resolved with minimum impact to service and treatments from time to time

Work across sites when necessary to support our sister clinic.

Your key working relationships:

As the Senior Outpatient Staff Nurse, you need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties:

Clinic Manager,

Outpatient Lead Nurse, HealthCare Assistants, Consultants

Radiographers.

Experience and skills:

Team player

Excellent communication and organisational skills Relevant clinical experience working within out-patients Phlebotomy experience

Evidence of service development/improvements to current services Flexibility to meet the needs of the service (e.g. shift work)

Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise

Qualifications and Knowledge:

Registered nurse with a valid NMC Pin

Experience in out patients/diagnostic procedures Phlebotomy skills -Desirable

Evidence of post-registration professional development Have undertaken an advanced communications course Have undertaken a counselling course

Hold a teaching qualification

Ability to use common software packages and databases

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent, Temporary, Fixed term contract

Pay: 35,000.00-41,307.80 per year
