Role: Packet Core Operations Engineer

Location: Reading & WFH

Duration: 6 months contract

Flint UK is seeking a Packet Core Operations Engineer to join our team. As a Packet Core Operations Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of our packet core network, ensuring it is optimally configured for high performance and availability. In this role, you will work closely with our network engineering and operations teams to implement changes, troubleshoot issues and monitor network performance. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, detail-oriented and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an in-depth understanding of the packet core network architecture and functionality
  • Configuring and maintaining packet core network elements such as Mobility Management Entity (MME), Serving Gateway (SGW), Packet Data Network Gateway (PGW), and other related network elements
  • Performing routine maintenance on the packet core network elements and ensuring software and hardware upgrades are implemented in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues utilizing packet captures and other analysis tools.
  • Collaborating with network engineering teams to design changes to the packet core network to improve overall performance and availability.
  • Creating and maintaining detailed network documentation and operating procedures
  • Participating in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for the packet core network.
Requirements

Essential Skills
  • Basic IP and netknowledge is essential.
  • Packet core knowledge - MME, EPG, SGW, WMG, AMF, SMF, UPF, PCRF, PCF, DNS.
  • VoLTE and VoWIFI knowledge
  • Minimum of 5 years actively supporting end to end systems infrastructure in a Telecommunications environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years analysing and troubleshooting service, application and network performance issues for business-critical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex Packet call flows - MME, EPG, SGW, WMG, AMF, SMF, UPF, PCRF, PCF.
  • The candidate needs to be able to work under pressure and provide clear and concise instructions and timely reports on any service disruptions, to aid restoration of the service and management escalations as and when necessary.
  • The candidate needs to have a grasp of telecommunication systems from an end-to-end perspective.
  • Familiarity with OpenStack to support NFVI infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes to support container-based applications and environments.
Desirable Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years supporting a data center Unix (Solaris and Linux) environments
  • Minimum of 5 years supporting critical applications
  • Openstack
  • Kubernetes
  • Project management experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Shell Scripting (bash, Perl)
  • Ericsson Packet Core
  • Oracle PCRF/PCF
Summary Requirements of Post
  • Support out of hours (unsociable hours) on a Rota basis currently 1 week in 4.
  • Support of Helpdesk during working hours currently 1 week in 4
  • Out-of-hours work for hardware and software changes at short notice.
  • Ability to manage vendors to deliver results.
