Children's Day Case Unit



The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital [RACH] is located on the Royal Sussex County Hospital site in Brighton. In June 2007 RACH opened on the current site in its brand new state of the art facility. It has won an international design award and continues with offering pioneering children's care.



The RACH has a long history of progressive and innovative Children's care embracing medicine, nursing and related professions, children's nurse training and research. It is one is of the leading children's centre's on the South Coast and has a 24 hour dedicated children's emergency department. RACH works closely with the neonatal service providing support and services for neonates such as surgery.



An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated team player to join our dynamic paediatric departments.



Our Day Case Ward is a busy unit which cares for children having surgery or investigations and treatment of medical conditions from a wide range of specialties.



This post offers an excellent learning opportunity for both new and experienced Children's Nurses.



We are looking for a committed, adaptable, hard working Children's Nurse with good interpersonal and communication skills.

Liaise effectively with colleagues, the multi-disciplinary team, the Sister and other departments to allow the timely management of patient throughput.



Following appropriate training , take part in the children's services nursing bleep-holder rota with the support of the senior nurse 'on call '.



Contributes to the recruitment and retention strategy for Children's Services, assisting the Ward Manager with interviewing.



To honour the core values established by the organisation in respect to how you should relate to other staff, volunteers, patients and the population which you serve.



Work with the other deputy sister/charge nurse and ward Manager to complete appraisals and the development of staff.



The post holder will continue to develop their own knowledge and skills through locally agreed personal development plans and facilitates the development of others.



The post holder will participate in change management and clinica l audit within own area of work, and work in partnership with other agencies.

Maintain an age and development appropriate environment that promotes safety, security and optimal health for the child and the family.



Facilitate and support the link worker role and support the development of other staff to undertake a link nurse role as designated by the Sister .



Lead and delegate mandatory and other audit as required by the Trust



Lead Unit meetings and deputise for Sister in their absence.



Facilitate the cascading of information from other sources in the absence of the Ward Manager



Awareness of organisational structure and the function of the Directorate within the organisation.



Participation in and promote others participation in Trust wide forums as designated by the Sister



Prioritise care and delegate duties to others as appropriate ensuring they are supervised and mentored taking into account knowledge, skills and ability of others.
