Paediatric Sleep Technician

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paediatric Sleep Technician to join our growing Paediatric Sleep service at King's College Hospital. This role will be based in Denmark Hill.



As a valued member of the team, you will work alongside another sleep technician, chief sleep and respiratory physiologists, CNS and the wider respiratory team . The role will involve supporting our inpatient paediatric sleep investigation service, and helping ensure a safe and positive experience for patients and parents attending their sleep studies.



Sleep studies will be performed 6 nights per week. This post will cover the service for 3 nights per week (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).



Main duties will include:



The set-up of overnight sleep studies on infants and children, including the calibration and attachment of monitors/electrodes to the patient.



Monitoring of the sleep study signals for quality during the night, recognising artefact and adjusting sensors if required.



Keeping detailed patient observations (position, sound, etc) throughout sleep studies and writing a detailed handover in the morning.



The downloading of sleep study data for interpretation by Physiologists.



Downloading data from overnight oximeters for interpretation by the Sleep technician.

The preparation of paperwork for sleep study patients each week.



Setting up and supporting nursing staff with sleep studies performed in other wards when required.



Liaising with the clinician on duty to clerk patient, and arrange for capillary blood sample to be performed, including entering blood results into sleep study equipment.



Cleaning, maintenance and stock monitoring of sleep study equipment.



The cleaning of all equipment that been returned from home loan so that it is fit to be loaned to further patients.



Taking sleep and ventilation equipment to the Medical Equipment Maintenance Department to ensure that it is serviced as required.



Maintaining relevant paediatric databases as required.



Supporting the sleep physiology team to ensure that the service runs smoothly
