To carry out internal and external painting and decorating works as part of the responsive maintenance service provided to social housing tenants. This role involves working in both occupied and void properties to maintain and improve the appearance and condition of homes, ensuring tenant satisfaction and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake all types of painting and decorating work including preparation, undercoating, glossing, emulsioning, and wallpapering in response to maintenance needs.
Carry out internal and external decoration works to occupied homes, void properties, communal areas, and external elements (e.g., fences, sheds, railings).
Prepare surfaces by removing old paint, filling holes, sanding, and priming surfaces to ensure high-quality finishes.
Carry out patch plastering and minor wall repairs where required before decorating.
Work closely with other trades to coordinate and complete full property refurbishments and reactive repairs.
Maintain a clean and tidy work area and ensure that all protective measures (dust sheets, taping, etc.) are in place to protect tenants' homes and possessions.
Liaise with residents in a polite and respectful manner to coordinate access and provide updates on work.
Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and risk assessments.
Accurately record completed works and materials used using handheld devices or paper-based systems.
Report any safeguarding or health and safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
Assist with minor multi-trade tasks if required to support job completion.
Skills and Experience:
Essential:
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Painting & Decorating or relevant experience.
Proven experience in residential painting, preferably in social housing or domestic settings.
Strong surface preparation and finishing skills.
Ability to work independently and to deadlines.
Full UK driving licence.
Good awareness of health and safety requirements, particularly when working in occupied homes.
Desirable:
Experience working in void refurbishments and responsive repairs.
CSR card or equivalent safety certification.
Asbestos awareness, working at height, and manual handling training.
Basic skills in other trades (e.g., patch plastering, sealing, tiling).
