We have a fantastic opportunity for a Paintshop Manager to join our Commercial & Industrial Division, based at our manufacturing site in Dalton, Thirsk.



Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.



The division has manufacturing sites in three locations: Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen. Each has full-service capabilities and modern manufacturing processes enabling us to provide a high-quality product to a variety of different sectors. Each of our sites has its own strong reputation in the market and between them cover a wider geographical area, including Europe. They continue to set the

bar high

in their highly complex market!

Vacancy Details



In the Paintshop Manager position you will be responsible for ensuring that all protective coatings (primer, intumescent, sealer paints), are being applied in accordance with the applicable specification. The role involves accurately reporting and advising on coating integrity inspections, maintaining high-quality standards, and supporting efficient operations within the paint shop.



Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Ensuring all products are painted to the correct specification, including paint material, blast profile, and surface cleanliness, as defined within the project scope. Liaise with paint suppliers for product ordering and scheduling technical service visits. Manage consumable usage within departmental overhead budgets. Monitor project delivery against timelines and allocated hours; request additional labour when necessary. Plan and manage hours, overtime, project priorities, and urgent job pacing within the paint shop. Lead people management efforts--setting goals, monitoring performance, achieving KPIs, and reducing safety incidents (RIDDORs). Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the department. Provide input during the tender stage regarding suitable primers, intumescent, and sealer paints. Coordinate Quality Assistants and Coatings Inspectors to collect data on steel condition, DFTs, and climatic tolerances. Advise on production overloads to ensure timely subcontracting to suppliers.

We are looking for someone with significant experience in a painting environment, with experience in managing people, as this role will have direct reports.



You will need NACE or ICorr Level 2 qualification or above, and a BCSA Responsible Paint Coordinator qualification is desirable.
