BHI GROUP seek to recruit a Network Transport Planner



The BHI Group are a group of companies which include Hallam Express Ltd and 4S Distribution Ltd both are leading transport and distribution providers offering next day palletised distribution throughout the UK and ambient or cold store warehousing facilities for our customers. Our 24-hour control center schedule vehicle movements to meet daily demands working closely with our customers, and their customers in turn. The result is continuous and seamless deliveries.

We have recently moved to new premises at S60 1FB to facilitate potential growth and therefore seek to recruit a Network Transport Planner. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating transport operations efficiently and ensuring timely deliveries

Job Purpose



To manage and coordinate the daily movement of vehicles, ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of inbound and outbound goods. This role liaises with staff, customers, and partner depots to maintain operational excellence, compliance with transport legislation, and adherence to TPN audit standards.

Key Responsibilities



Oversee the daily operation of the network fleet, drivers, and freight to deliver on agreed plans. Act as the main point of contact for all network-related activities, internally and externally. Ensure compliance with transport legislation, company procedures, and TPN audit requirements. Manage and motivate the team to deliver efficient scanning, checking, and movement of freight. Maintain strong working relationships with customers, depots, and internal teams. Monitor and drive achievement of network KPIs, ensuring continuous improvement. Monitor daily vehicle inspections and defect reporting procedures for all drivers and fleet, ensuring vehicle cleanliness and safety before leaving the depot. Manage legal compliance, tachograph rules, tracking systems, and drivers' infringements, taking appropriate action when necessary. Ensure all vehicle accidents and incidents are fully investigated and reported. Monitor vehicle compliance and maintenance schedules, adjusting fleet resources as required to ensure full utilisation of the fleet on a daily basis. Supervise the daily management of vehicles, drivers, and freight across the network. Organise and oversee scanning and checking of inbound/outbound freight for accuracy and compliance. Manage drivers effectively through communication, tracking systems, compliance monitoring and daily/weekly debrief. Work closely with the warehouse team to coordinate the handling of customer and network freight. Plan and manage network collections to maximise efficiency and compliance. Support customer service by handling delivery queries, ETAs, and problem resolution. Assist partner depots with queries, complaints, or non-conformances. Keep detailed and accurate records of all operational communications and customer correspondence. Ensure compliance with and delivery of network KPIs. Proactively introduce new ideas, improvements, and initiatives to enhance operational performance. Undertake additional duties as required.
Requirements:
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise workload effectively
- Proficiency in IT tools such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience in logistics or transport planning
- Valid driving license, HGV License an advantage
- Excellent communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external customers
