Job Description

St Giles Trust seeks Pantry Volunteers to support community pantry operations across London locations. Volunteers will assist with stock handling, customer service, and light-touch support, promoting inclusivity and dignity. Applicants should demonstrate food hygiene knowledge, teamwork, and commitment to safeguarding. Travel expenses and benefits are provided. Application deadline: 31st July 2025.

You will be part of a comprehensive Pantry service delivering across St Giles Trust that is mindful of, and promotes the organisation's Vision, Mission, Values and strategic aims.


We are recruiting for volunteers at Camberwell (SE5) North Kensington (W10), South Kensington (SW3), Islington (N7) and Hackney (N16), with reasonable travel expenses paid. After your shift, you will also be entitled to a free shop in line with the membership rules of our members.


As a Pantry Volunteer, you will support the day-to-day operation of a community pantry at one of our London locations. You will work alongside the Pantry Coordinator and other volunteers to help create a welcoming, dignified, and well-managed space for local members. Tasks will include stock handling, customer service, and light-touch support such as signposting and meal planning tips.

(1) Key Deliverables

Support the daily running of the Pantry service. Help keep the shop clean, stocked, and presentable. Comply with all food safety, health and safety, and manual handling policies. Ensure food is labelled correctly and within date. Greet and assist Pantry members, offering respectful and confidential support. Help customers select items and complete basic forms. Occasionally offer meal planning tips and cooking advice on a budget. Assist with deliveries and food storage. Uphold a warm, inclusive, and dignified atmosphere for all visitors.

Knowledge and Experience



Knowledge of basic food hygiene and stock rotation principles. (A) Knowledge of anti-discriminatory working practices, and the implications of both within the working environment. Practical application of diversity awareness and unconscious bias in employment.(Desirable) Knowledge of and commitment to safeguarding practices and policies, and an ability to promote safeguarding among vulnerable clients and colleagues. (A) Previous experience of working within a retail and customer-facing role. #

Skills and Abilities



Ability to be a flexible and co-operative member of a team. (A) Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people with lived in experience. (A) Good communication skills. Self-motivated and enjoys working within a team. #
