The Team

The EL/PL team role involves advising insurers on particular aspects of insurance injury matters, including from a recovery angle or on indemnity and in respect of specific aspects of a case, and also in defending claims, from the start of the litigation process, on the insurers\' behalf. Principally the work focuses on employers\' and public liability claims.

The Role

We are recruiting paralegals to work from our Manchester office on pre-lit and fast-track claims for a major insurer. The successful candidates will also have a varied caseload of Defendant Employers Liability and Public Liability claims and will work in a team dedicated to dealing with a number of the UK\'s largest insurer clients. The team currently enjoys hybrid working, being in the office 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities

Sub-heading

  • Running files on claims both pre-lit and fast-track claims with supervision
  • Day to day file management
  • Preparing court bundles
  • Drafting letters of instruction, requests, Instructions to Counsel
  • Preparing briefing notes, action plans, file notes and attendance notes
  • Reviewing reports and statements and other relevant documents
  • Drafting and proof reading documents
  • Liaising with and meeting clients with a high level of professionalism
  • Delegation to support services for photocopying, scanning, filing and other administrative tasks
  • Conducting research and keeping up to date with legal and industry practices
  • Managing day to day deadlines with the ability to prioritise and manage time effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ensure files and spreadsheets are maintained and updated including Management Information
  • Adhoc tasks as required
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience working in Personal Injury teams is essential;
  • Previous experience working on matters on the defendant side is desirable not essential;
  • Legal qualifications and/or experience is mandatory;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • The ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently by managing time in a fast paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills / knowledge
  • A professional manner with the ability to build relationships internally and externally

Our Paralegal Academy offers a brilliant new way to build an exciting future in our Casualty Practice and we\'ve designed this fantastic programme to nurture you as a Paralegal and help you become part of an amazing story - ours. The Paralegal Academy isn\'t only for those starting out in their law career. The training provided in the academy will be tailored to varying levels of experience, so all our Paralegals in Casualty are supported when it comes to their development and career progression.

The teams participating in the Paralegal Academy are Abuse & Neglect, Catastrophic Injury & Large Loss, EL/PL, Motor, Costs, Credit Hire, Disease, Fraud, Property Damage, Recoveries and SHE & Regulatory.

Working closely with our Partners and experienced fee earners, you\'ll play an important role in our Casualty teams. Depending on your experience and interest you will be placed in one of our teams with a workload that ranges from running your own cases, to assisting in complex, high value claims. Covering a range of areas, you\'ll be involved in instructing counsel and medical experts, taking statements, assessing evidence, reviewing medical records, attending conferences, and much more.

Our Paralegal Academy Lead will be on hand to keep everything running smoothly, and our Legal Training Manager will also support you with technical and structured training - so you can get the skills and experience to go further than you imagine.
