Paralegal (health & Social Care Advisory Team)

Job Description

We're looking for a Paralegal to join our Health and Social Care Advisory team (HCAT) in Newcastle. You'll be supporting fee earners working on a wide range of Court of Protection litigation and inquest matters, ensuring all required documentation is in place.
What will I be doing

  • Dealing with complex medical and legal issues that require research and discussion with other members of the HCAT.
  • Assisting fee earners with the preparation of Court procedural documents, reviewing evidence and witness statements, letters of instruction to counsel and experts, chronologies of records, applications to court for extensions of time and other procedural documents etc;
  • Preparing copies of original medical records, looking through medical records to find relevant letters, documents and evidence as required pursuant to the proceedings.
  • Preparing bundles for the Court, Counsel and experts.
  • Attending court and conferences to assist counsel/fee earners and taking notes. This will require some ad hoc travel.
  • Chasing up witnesses for statements and documents and keeping track of all deadlines.
  • Attending departmental meetings and other internal meetings as required.
  • Arranging conferences including Court Telephone hearings.
  • Maintaining and keeping our matter management system fully up to date.
You'll have
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and good all-round IT skills
  • The ability to prioritise, work to tight deadlines, and manage your time effectively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • The ability to adapt your style, be proactive, and effectively solve problems.
  • Previous legal work experience would be advantageous but not essential.
