Job Description

The role



The post will assist the Directors working on actions against the Police and abuse litigation cases.

Duties and responsibilities



Draft letters and documents, such as witness statements and instructions to experts;

Sort and review records, liaise with medical professionals, prisons, and other solicitors;

Undertake legal research tasks;

In the absence of supervising fee-earner, ensure that urgent matters are referred to appropriate personnel;

Attend court and police misconduct hearings;

Support the Directors at client meetings; take thorough, accurate notes and preparation of file notes;

Organise and prepare court and other bundles;

Any other tasks as might be required from time to time.

Information Technology



To utilise I.T. to provide a quality, cost effective and efficient service to clients in an office that operates on a paperless system.

Training



To try and keep up-to-date by attending in-house seminars, through research, reading and attending courses if appropriate;

To ensure that adequate training is received to be able to gain maximum benefit from the firm's investment in Information Technology.

Person Specification



Essential



Paralegal experience in dealing with post-litigation procedure;

Drafting legal documentation and correspondence e.g. routine court applications, preparation for court hearings, sorting and reviewing medical and financial records, interviewing clients and taking witness statements;

Experience in instructing and liaising with experts in medical and non-medical fields;

Genuine interest to work with a leading claimant law firm and passionate about providing access to justice to all;

Good academic background;

Experience in reviewing and analysing voluminous background records; preparing chronologies and summaries;

Proven ability in dealing sensitively with clients and managing difficult situations and conversations;

Experience in using a variety of IT packages (MS Word, Excel, Case Management Systems, Outlook);

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to communicate accurately, clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing with a wide range of clients and various stakeholders;

Proven ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines whilst maintaining a positive attitude;

Proven ability to work and contribute in a team environment;

Prepared to, at all times, have regard to the SRA's Code of Conduct, and in particular to the strict requirement of confidentiality of clients' affairs.

Desirable



Relevant legal work experience in Actions Against the Police and/ or abuse litigation;

Experience of working with vulnerable, challenging client group and evidence of resilience, building trust and confidence;

Experience operating Proclaim ("case management system").

Pay: From 26,000.00 per year
