AP Television News Ltd (\xe2\x80\x9cAPTN\xe2\x80\x9d) and AP Ltd are the UK-based international divisions of The Associated Press (www.ap.org), the world\xe2\x80\x99s oldest and largest newsgathering organisation. APTN and AP Ltd together distribute global news, sport, entertainment, technology, and lifestyle media content to broadcast, online and mobile platforms. Video syndicated by APTN is seen by half the world\xe2\x80\x99s population on any given day.

This job is being offered on a fixed term basis, between 9 to 12 months.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing reviews/cross-checking and drafting of commercial agreements of varying complexity, to include licensing and distribution deals, and in addition NDAs, novations/assignments, SLAs, addenda, letters of agreements and various other legal documents. Agreements may also cover the production, acquisition, licensing, syndication, marketing and international distribution of AP\xe2\x80\x99s news content and media services.
  • Review, manage and help resolve legal issues that arise under commercial agreements.
  • Drafting letters as advised by internal clients, to include terminations, payment plans, cease and desist and other general ad hoc legal letter requests.
  • Assist legal team with reviewing copyright claims and enforcement matters as directed.
  • Undertake legal research as directed by legal team to include, privacy laws, data protection, copyright, ESG, sanctions etc.
  • Assist legal team with international registrations and Companies House requirements, to include board minutes and POAs.
  • Undertake any project and ad-hoc work as directed by the legal team.
  • Assist legal team on other matters as directed.
  • Assisting with ad hoc queries from all departments.
  • Other general admin support for legal team.
  • Provide day-to-day contract advice and guidance to the business divisions within AP International.
  • Liaise with outside counsel, notaries and translators as instructed.
Required Skills:
  • Legal academic background
  • Established experience in one or more positions that demonstrate the candidate\xe2\x80\x99s teamwork, professionalism, attention to detail and responsibility.
  • Preference for candidates that have previous experience either in house or at a law firm.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is a requirement in this role as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • Highly organised and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
  • Previous experience of working within an international organisation and dealing with multi-territory legal issues.
