We are pleased to be supporting an innovative client at the forefront of the medical cannabis and wellness space in their search for a

Paralegal

(3 to 6 months initially) to join their in-house legal and compliance function. This role comes at a pivotal moment in the development of both the business and the wider cannabis medicines industry in the UK.


This is a rare and exciting opportunity to gain in-depth legal experience in a fast-evolving and highly regulated sector, working across areas such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and wellness. The successful candidate will provide broad legal support across regulatory, commercial, and corporate matters--with a clear and supported route towards a training contract for the right individual.


Reporting into a senior in-house lawyer and working closely with cross-functional teams, the role includes drafting and reviewing contracts, contributing to internal legal guidance and policies, supporting regulatory filings, and assisting in correspondence with bodies such as the MHRA, CQC, and ICO. The role offers significant exposure to commercial law, compliance, and operational strategy, as well as involvement in shaping legal frameworks in a pioneering clinical business.


The successful candidate will also help build legal processes, training materials, and frameworks to support scalable growth. Comprehensive training in cannabis law, UK life sciences regulation, and controlled substances frameworks will be provided, along with ongoing mentoring, regular feedback, and opportunities to engage in industry workshops and legal development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:



Drafting, reviewing, and advising on a range of commercial contracts and internal policies Supporting compliance across regulatory frameworks (CQC, MHRA, Home Office, GMC, ICO, etc.) Conducting legal research and producing concise, practical guidance Preparing reports, guidance documents, and regulatory submissions Liaising with external advisors and UK regulators Assisting business functions with legal and ethical queries Supporting legal input on ancillary areas such as employment and data protection Contributing to legal process development within a scaling healthcare business

Candidate Profile - Essential Criteria:



Law degree or GDL and LPC, or have passed SQE1 (minimum 2:1 or Commendation) Excellent drafting, legal writing, and research skills Passion for cannabis-based medicines, wellness, healthcare, or life sciences Experience with contract drafting and stakeholder management Strong interpersonal, communication, and IT skills Confidence to take ownership of tasks and learn proactively Collaborative team mindset and eagerness to work cross-functional

Desirable:



Prior legal experience in a regulatory, healthcare, pharmaceutical or scientific setting Academic or professional background in biology, psychology, or chemistry Familiarity with UK medical or controlled drug regulations Previous in-house or clinical legal support experience Commercial awareness and adaptability in a start-up environment
