About the Role
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced paralegal to join our diverse and growing legal team. This role is ideal for a candidate with a genuine passion for immigration law, civil litigation, family law and employment law who is looking to build a meaningful legal career. You will work closely with experienced solicitors and partners on a wide range of matters, assisting in both advisory and contentious work, while gradually building your own caseload under supervision.
As an experienced paralegal at our firm, you will be supported through your work, gaining exposure to real clients and real legal issues from day one. You will have the opportunity to attend court hearings, client meetings, and you'll be expected to contribute to legal strategy, research, and drafting with a hands-on approach.
Key Responsibilities
Assist solicitors and fee earners in handling a broad caseload in immigration, civil litigation, family, and employment matters.
Draft a range of legal documentation including witness statements, legal representations, court applications, contracts, and settlement agreements.
Conduct in-depth legal research on statutes, case law, procedural rules, and policy guidance to support litigation strategy and client advice.
Prepare trial/hearing bundles and assist in briefing counsel.
Attend and take notes in client and staff meetings, hearings, conferences with counsel, and mediation sessions.
Monitor and progress cases by managing court and tribunal deadlines, client follow-ups, file notes and file reviews.
Liaise with third parties including courts, the Home Office, tribunals, medical experts, employers, and barristers' chambers.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate client files, using the firm's case management system and complying with data protection and confidentiality standards.
Take responsibility for initial client onboarding: conducting client due diligence (ID, AML checks), preparing client care letters, and opening new matters.
Participate in internal training sessions, legal updates, and team meetings to further your professional development.
Engage with the firm's marketing, community outreach, social media posts and videos or pro bono activities where appropriate.
Attend county court hearings, gaining valuable litigation exposure.
Provide general administrative support as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the legal team.
Essential Requirements
LLB Law degree (minimum 2:2 classification)
Demonstrated legal work experience (minimum 2 years) in one or more of the following areas: immigration, civil litigation, family law, or employment law.
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including experience dealing directly with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to produce clear, accurate, and structured written advice.
Ability to work under pressure, manage deadlines, and prioritise a busy and varied caseload.
Excellent legal research and drafting skills
Full right to work in the UK - no visa sponsorship available.
A high level of attention to detail and analytical ability, with a methodical, organised approach to casework and, professionalism.
A proactive, motivated, and solution-focused mindset, with a willingness to take initiative while recognising when to escalate.
Familiarity with key legislation such as the Immigration Rules, Employment Rights Act 1996, Children Act 1989, Civil Procedure Rules, and the Family Procedure Rules.
Commitment to client care, confidentiality, and ethical legal practice.
Strong commitment to personal and professional development, with a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment with heavy caseload.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable / Preferred
Completion of LPC or SQE1
Prior experience handling Legal Aid files or court documents
Experience attending court hearings or working in a client-facing legal environment
Proficiency with legal case management software
Fluency in a second language (especially Urdu, Bengali, Arabic, Kurdish, Panjabi, French or Polish)
Understanding of Home Office or Civil Procedure Rules
Community involvement or voluntary legal work (e.g. law clinics, Citizens Advice)
Competency in using legal case management software, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and digital court/tribunal systems.
