We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised paralegal/assistant to work 50% alongside our Private Client lawyer and 50% alongside our Conveyancer.
The ideal candidate will provide valued support to the fee earners, ensuring that all documentation is accurate, while learning on the job with opportunities to progress in the future. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism. It is extremely important that you are open and honest with our team from the very beginning. Integrity is at the heart of our legal practice.
Working well as a team and building a good rapport with our members of staff will also be crucial to having a successful career here.
The role will begin to that similar of a legal secretary/personal assistant to the fee earner while you gain the necessary skills to begin working autonomously, with supervision. For this reason, the starting wage will be minimum wage, which will be reviewed as and when you progress.
You MUST have a legal background - either a law degree or equivalent. We may also consider candidates with an experienced secretarial background in Private Client law or Conveyancing who wish to progress.

We are a rural firm and there are limited bus routes therefore, if you are not local, the ability to drive to work will be essential. Please also bare in mind that if you are not local, you will need to be happy that the journey is sustainable for the long-term and that you may need to drive in winter conditions.
Some flexibility and working at home opportunities are available where necessary but you will be required to work in our Stanhope office, particularly during training. You may also be required to work at our Bishop Auckland office, as and when necessary. The usual hours are 9-5, Monday to Friday.

Duties
Prepare and review legal documents.
Liaise with clients, estate agents, and other legal professionals to facilitate smooth transactions.
Conduct property searches and due diligence to ensure compliance with regulations.
Manage the legal processes effectively.
Maintain accurate records and files for all transactions in accordance with company policies.
Provide clients with updates on the progress of their transactions and address any queries they may have.
Ensure that all deadlines are met in a timely manner while maintaining attention to detail.
Skills
Proficient in Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Time management skills to prioritise workload effectively.
IT proficiency to utilise various software systems for document management and communication.
