We have an exciting opportunity for a Private Client Paralegal to work at our brand-new Newcastle city centre office.
Previous knowledge and experience of Wills, probate, powers of attorney, trust administration is advantageous but not essential.
Successful applicants will report to the Head of Department and will:
Assist the solicitors in the team by dealing/speaking with existing and new clients
Advise, assist and represent clients, maintaining an exceptionally high standard of client care at all times
Evaluate and assess information, evidence and legal issues
Provide support to solicitors in the team in running their caseload
Evaluate and assess information, evidence and legal issues
Balance the demands of clients/caseload and non-casework responsibilities, ensuring they meet deadlines set
Contribute to marketing and business development activities for the team and firm
They will be able to get involved in a variety of matters including:
Drafting Wills
Assisting with estate administration to include reviewing papers and scheduling assets and liabilities
Contacting and meeting with estate agents/valuers as part of the gathering of information to administer an estate
Meeting with clients with one of the solicitors
Contacting clients to arrange meetings and to gather information
Preparing powers of attorney and accompanying Court forms
Contacting asset holders to obtain information as part of the estate administration and assist with paying liabilities
Carrying out online searches - for example bankruptcy searches
Preparing forms to deal with the encashment or transfer of assets under the estate
The following skills and experience are relevant:
Balancing the demands of clients/caseload and non-casework responsibilities and ensuring that deadlines are met
Adhering to all file and case management policies and procedures / compliance
Accurately recording all time, chargeable and non-chargeable
Ensuring that the billing of files is carried out efficiently and at the earliest opportunity
Working as a team player with other fee earners and support staff
Maintaining knowledge and skills in relevant practice area keeping up to date with relevant legislation and case law
Ensuring continuing competence through identifying and addressing any learning needs
Participating in and engaging with supervision
Maintaining a good knowledge and understanding of IT systems
