Role Summary
As a
Paramedic at ZAM FM
, you will work alongside Emergency Care Assistants and/or other clinically qualified practitioners, responding to:
High dependency clinical transfers
Non-emergency PTS patient journeys
Potential frontline 999 emergency calls
You will attend a wide variety of accident and emergency situations, sometimes covering significant distances under both normal and emergency road conditions, always ensuring scenes are reached
as quickly and as safely as possible
.
You will be required to:
Provide
high-quality patient assessment, clinical care, and safe transportation
.
Support inter-hospital transfers, including very unwell patients being moved to specialist centres or between hospitals.
Deliver emergency clinical interventions, including:
Controlling severe haemorrhage
Managing trauma such as fractures and open wounds
Caring for patients with suspected spinal or complex injuries
Providing oxygen therapy and required medicines in line with Medicines Management policy
Work as part of a station-based operational team across a
24/7 rota
, responding in all weather conditions, including:
Motorways
Confined or difficult-access environments
Complex or high-pressure incident scenes
Communicate and support
patients, relatives, carers, and members of the public
, especially at major or serious incidents.
Maintain
clinical registration, best practice standards, and personal professional conduct
at all times.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Deliver patient care with
professionalism, empathy and clinical leadership
as trained.
Take responsibility for clinical care in the back of the ambulance for emergency and transfer cases.
Support operational crews, ensuring the correct equipment and environment are prepared to assess and treat patients safely.
Request the vehicle is
stopped safely
and escalate care immediately during patient deterioration or concern.
Engage with dispatch and senior clinical support to determine safe clinical routing or escalation plans (e.g., RV point, ED, clinical backup).
Drive and operate vehicles, where qualified, in a
smooth, controlled and legally compliant manner

Maintain communication with
ambulance control and dispatch at all times

Maintain, check, clean and restock vehicles, ensuring:
Legal and roadworthy compliance
Adequate clinical consumables and safety supplies
Strict infection prevention and control procedures
Complete and submit
accurate, timely clinical and operational documentation and reports
.
Respond to and report:
Safeguarding concerns
Health & Safety hazards or incidents
Patient welfare or service-related concerns
Comply with
Duty of Candour
, maintaining openness and transparency during incident reporting.
Participate in all
mandatory and developmental training
, supervision, and professional development activities.
Governance, Safety & Professional Standards
The post holder will be expected to:
Maintain
confidentiality and data security
in line with UK GDPR, Caldicott Principles and common-law duty of confidentiality.
Understand and uphold responsibilities under Health & Safety legislation, including reporting incidents and contributing to risk assessments where required.
Follow all
Infection Prevention and Control
requirements including PPE, vehicle decontamination and hand hygiene protocols.
Use all
company-issued telecommunication and digital job-update devices responsibly
and in line with Information Governance standards.
Ensure that social media and digital conduct
never brings ZAM FM, its clients or healthcare partners into disrepute
, with breaches potentially treated as gross misconduct.

Entry Requirements
To be successful in the role, you must meet the following essential criteria:
Maths, English and one other GCSE at grade C (or above)
or equivalent
Previous
customer or patient-facing experience
Demonstrable working knowledge of
dealing with patients safely, respectfully and professionally
Strong knowledge of the
Highway Code
(tested at assessment stage)
Excellent communication, clinical decision-making and ability to remain calm under pressure
In-date safeguarding qualification
, appropriate to role level (required)
Enhanced DBS check
(processed and verified by employer upon appointment)
