We are working on a fantastic opportunity for a Paraplanner to join at an investment management firm in Edinburgh. In this role, you will work closely with advisers across the business with complex advise cases and support the wider support team with technical queries, training, client queries and support.
Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years in a Paraplanning role or equivalent.
  • Understanding of the annual FCA ongoing suitability process and experience providing support with this.
  • Knowledge of Xplan (or similar practice management systems) would be beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge of all Microsoft office applications specifically Excel.
  • Candidates must have attained minimum Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning (or equivalent) with desire to achieve Level 6 and Chartered status.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail when writing reports.
  • Client focused, delivering a high standard of client service.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proficient in standard industry advice and research tools, for example: Selectapension, Cashflow Modelling (preferably Fincalc), FE Analytics.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and write advice reports of the highest quality covering a broad range of financial planning topics including pensions, offshore bonds, and specialist tax-efficient investments such as Business Relief, EIS and VCTs.
  • Undertake technical research and analysis of clients existing products and investments, with findings to be presented in a detailed advice report.
  • Work collaboratively with the financial planners to create bespoke planning solutions for new and existing clients and be prepared to challenge when required.
  • Discuss client objectives with financial planners, identifying where further necessary client information is required, to prepare robust advice reports.
  • Draft research documents to explain complex technical issues in a simple manner.
  • Assist in compiling financial planning and investment proposals, taking responsibility for any additional bespoke work being proposed such as cash-flow modelling.
  • Maintain compliant advice files in Practice Management System (Xplan).
  • Work alongside the support team to provide technical assistance relevant to any new business or servicing of existing clients, ensuring the highest level of client service is delivered.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of paraplanners and graduates, sharing knowledge and expertise within the team.
  • Liaise with third party stakeholders such as accountants, lawyers, and service providers where relevant to provide/obtain information for mutual clients.
  • Keep up to date with FCA rules and regulations.
  • Continually look at ways to enhance operational systems and procedures to maximise efficiencies e.g. Xplan (practice management system).
