Are you a confident and passionate individual with in-depth knowledge and understanding of Additional Learning Needs (ALN)? Do you have experience working collaboratively with parents in an educational setting? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference!
Newport City Council is looking for someone who is passionate about supporting both schools and families. In this role, you will work closely with parents, schools, and multi-agency partners to support the local authority's ALN processes and systems, helping to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.
Key Responsibilities
Support the ALN Manager in reducing Tribunal cases through early intervention and effective liaison with parents and agencies.
Act as the main point of contact for parents/carers, providing advice and support to overcome educational barriers and prevent formal legal appeals.
Help families understand the ALN process, including assessments, IDPs, statutory rights, and placement decisions.
Promote parental involvement and customer satisfaction by supporting ALN Officers and engaging with families.
Represent the Chief Education Officer at key meetings and act as the nominated officer for statutory assessments.
We are looking for:
Strong communication, empathy, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to work professionally with parents/carers.
Proven experience in ALN administration and education settings, with sound knowledge of ALN legislation and tribunal processes.
Skilled in IT, report writing, and managing workloads independently and collaboratively under pressure.
