Then join the NFB for a three-month opportunity to work in our policy team to help solve the housing crisis, build up the construction industry and ensure we can meet our climate challenges.
The NFB represents the broader construction industry and so you will get a crash course in how the incredible industry functions, while also working with an experienced policy team that has enabled real change. You will have an opportunity to bring your own ideas to the table and have them implemented, as, while this role is cover, it is important that the successful applicant can use this role to progress their own career.
The role
Supporting political engagement, member needs, stakeholder management and communications you will be part of the press team, analyse policies, speak to members about their challenges and concerns and attend occasional stakeholder meetings.
Job purpose
Help deliver and promote the NFB's Public Affairs Plan
Analyse, understand and co-ordinate the NFB's Parliamentary affairs in relation to members' needs
Inform members of changes in public policy
Key responsibilities
Monitor Parliament and the devolved Parliaments/assemblies, evaluate the relevance of legislation, Ministerial statements, debates and Parliamentary Questions
Monitor construction industry developments and evaluate their relevance and effect on the federation and its members companies
Provide research and analytical support to underpin policy positions
Provide public affairs support to ensure the federation's programmes of political engagement are executed
Contribute to and co-ordinate the federation's monthly member newsletter, news briefings and other policy publications or articles
Ensure the NFB's policy and research work is reflected on the federation's websites and social media channels and any partner or associated websites, as appropriate
Help sustain and promote working relationships with all major stakeholders that have an impact on, or interest in, construction and house building
Person specification
Excellent written communication skills and first-class attention to detail
Knowledge of the workings of Parliament and the policymaking process
Ability to grasp issues quickly
A clear sense of team spirit and the ability to work effectively with colleagues
Strong research, organisational and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects
Strong IT skills that match the day-to-day demands of the post
Skilled use of social media in a business context
Good diary management skills
Confidence and the ability to speak to a range of audiences (internal and external)
The first week will be spent on a handover and for you to settle into the role, which is typically fast paced and can change at a moments notice, due the media work which can come in.
There may be occasional travel. Expenses will be covered.
The role can be based in Knutsford, Brighton or remote working may be possible.
