Job SummaryTo organise and carry out an activity programme for residents in the home and wider Whitgift care community that enriches their lives, in conjunction with the care and other staff.
Main duties and responsibilities:
To identify the needs of all residents individually through the use of resident profiles and biographies, and the care plans.
To organise and provide a range of stimulating and enjoyable activities, in conjunction with the care and other staff.
To ensure that a social care plan for each resident is in place within 4 weeks of the date of admission and reviewed regularly.
To arrange social activities, entertainment and outings and to ensure the correct ratio of staff are present for all outdoor activities.
To organise coffee mornings and the Home's annual garden party in conjunction with other staff.
To support the development of the day care provision at the home by encouraging day care people to participate activities as appropriate.
To establish links with, and encourage involvement of, the Whitgift Care Community in the activities programme, with particular focus on the residents of the sheltered flats at Whitgift House and the Almshouses.
To encourage and facilitate the involvement of the local community in the home including schools, religious and voluntary groups, etc.
To liaise with the Foundation's marketing and communications department to actively promote the home through the development of newsletters, the website and other external communications.
To support other care home staff and volunteers allocated to assist in the activity programme.
To involve relatives in the activity programme and attend residents' meetings as appropriate in order to gain involvement from the residents in developing the activities programme.
To communicate effectively with care and other staff regarding the implementation of the activity programme and about residents' progress, needs and requests.
To provide information, as required, for inclusion in the residents' care plans.
To attend staff meetings, training and information sessions as required.
To control and maintain the stock of equipment, materials and resources.
To be responsible for equipment, which may be borrowed from other sources.
To promote a positive image of the home by maintaining a professional approach at all times and by highlighting community awareness of the home and its services.
To maintain a safe living and working environment through observation and implementation of health and safety regulations in order to meet statutory and local regulations.
To be prepared to assist in other duties as required by the Home Manager when circumstances deem it necessary.
To be flexible in working hours, days, evenings and weekends as required.
To maintain confidentiality of personal information regarding residents and staff and all other matters relating to the Home at all times during employment.
To maintain a high level of professional conduct at all times.
To maintain a high level of personal hygiene at all times.

Desirable Person Specification For Activities Coordinator
Experience of working in a similar environment i.e. residential care for the elderly
Ability to communicate effectively with elderly, hearing impaired people
Current First Aid Certificate
Good organisational skills
Ability to work under pressure
Computer literate
Flexibility in working hours to include days, and some Saturdays as required for the yearly garden party/coffee morning.
Confident and energetic disposition to encourage social activities and relationships between residents
Ability to plan and carry out interesting and relevant activities for elderly people which are inclusive of the Whitgift Care Community
