Cedar Care Group works with local authorities and housing providers across the UK to deliver high-quality, supported housing and property management services. We're dedicated to maintaining safe, compliant, and well-managed homes for our tenants -- and we're looking for a professional Debt Collector to help manage and recover overdue rent and service charge payments with empathy and efficiency.
The Role
We're seeking a Part-Time Debt Collector to support our housing and finance teams in managing arrears and maintaining strong tenant relationships. You'll play an important role in ensuring financial stability across our property portfolio by following up on outstanding balances and agreeing sustainable repayment plans.
This role is ideal for someone with strong communication skills, a calm and professional manner, and experience handling sensitive financial conversations.
Key Responsibilities
Contact tenants and clients via phone, email, visits or letter to recover overdue payments
Negotiate affordable and realistic repayment plans
Maintain detailed and accurate records of all communications and outcomes
Prepare regular arrears reports for management review
Liaise with housing officers and finance staff to resolve payment issues
Escalate persistent non-payment cases following internal procedures
Ensure all actions comply with GDPR, FCA, and Cedar Care Group policies
What We're Looking For
Experience in debt collection, rent arrears management, or credit control
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Empathetic and professional approach when dealing with vulnerable tenants
Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
Confident using Microsoft Office and CRM or housing management systems
Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working remotely
Based in or near Preston (preferred for occasional team meetings)
Knowledge of housing or social care sector (advantageous but not essential)
