Here at 1st Places, we are looking for a compassionate and experienced Head of Residential Childcare who understands how to make a house a home. Our young people have experienced significant trauma and abuse in their early lives, and they need more than just care--they need connection, consistency, and a place where they feel truly safe and valued.

Working Days: Mon-Fri ( Part time hours 8 - 16 hours p/w), Shift Pattern: 9am -5pm 55,000 - 65,000 depending on experience (pro rata)
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Responsible Individual (RI) to take on the role of Head of Residential Childcare, overseeing the strategic and operational leadership of our children's residential homes. This is a pivotal role within our organisation, ensuring that our homes consistently deliver outstanding care, meet all regulatory requirements, and provide safe, nurturing environments for children and young people who have experienced trauma and adversity. You will work closely with Registered Managers and care teams, offering guidance, mentorship, and oversight to ensure our services not only meet but exceed Ofsted expectations.

Regulatory Compliance



Ensure full compliance with Ofsted regulations, the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards. Lead on regulatory inspections and ensure homes are always inspection-ready.

Leadership & Management



Provide strong, values-led leadership to Registered Managers and care teams. Line manage, supervise, and appraise Registered Managers, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing



We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Responsible Individual (RI) to take on the role of Head of Residential Childcare, overseeing the strategic and operational leadership of our children's residential homes.

This is a pivotal role within our organisation, ensuring that our homes consistently deliver outstanding care, meet all regulatory requirements, and provide safe, nurturing environments for children and young people who have experienced trauma and adversity.

You will work closely with Registered Managers and care teams, offering guidance, mentorship, and oversight to ensure our services not only meet but exceed Ofsted expectations.

Champion the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection. Ensure the safety, wellbeing, and rights of all children and young people are upheld at all times.

Operational Oversight



Oversee the day-to-day operations of the homes, ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with company policies and procedures. Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of organisational policies. Provide out-of-hours senior management support as required.

Staff Development



Lead on recruitment, training, and development of staff across the homes. Coach and support Registered Managers to enhance care practice, improve safeguarding outcomes, and build high-performing teams.

Financial & Business Management



Manage budgets effectively, ensuring financial sustainability and growth. Monitor and support homes to meet or exceed commercial expectations, including occupancy and revenue targets.

Stakeholder Engagement



Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities, external agencies, and regulatory bodies. Represent the organisation professionally and positively in all external communications.

Monitoring & Reporting



Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure performance, compliance, and quality standards are consistently met. Work alongside the Quality and Compliance Officer to drive continuous improvement. Proven experience in a senior leadership role within children's residential care. Must meet Ofsted's Responsible Individual requirements. In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Children's Act. Strong understanding of safeguarding procedures and child protection protocols. Demonstrated ability to lead, support, and develop Registered Managers and care teams. Experience in managing budgets, business operations, and regulatory compliance. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent). Full UK Driving License

Pay: 55,000.00-65,000.00 per year
