Part-Time Shop Assistant - New Arc Wildlife Rescue Charity Shop (Dyce)



We are looking for a friendly and reliable Part-Time Shop Assistant to join our team at the New Arc Wildlife Rescue charity shop in Dyce. By supporting the shop, you'll be helping raise vital funds to care for and rehabilitate injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife across the North-East of Scotland.

About the role



Reporting to the Trustee Shop Manager, you'll help create a welcoming environment for customers, support with day-to-day shop duties, and actively promote Gift Aid, charity events, and the mission of New Arc to maximise awareness and income. You'll also play a key role in handling, rotating, and replenishing stock to keep the shop fresh and inviting, while ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and compliance are maintained at all times.

Main responsibilities include



Customer Service and Sales Serving and assisting customers with purchases. Promoting Gift Aid to donors and explaining how it helps the charity. Promoting charity events and the charity's mission to customers. Using the till/EPOS system and handling cash and card transactions accurately. Stock Handling and Merchandising Sorting, pricing, and displaying donated goods. Rotating and replenishing stock to maintain a fresh and appealing shop. Adjusting displays and stock presentation for seasonal or promotional activity. Recycling as appropriate to support environmental sustainability. Shop Operations Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the shop. Maintaining tidiness, safety, and shop presentation. Opening and closing the shop securely. Basic record keeping, banking preparation, and daily cash reconciliation (if required). Teamwork and Volunteer Support Working alongside and supporting volunteers. Contributing positively to a collaborative team environment. Health, Safety and Compliance Following procedures to ensure a safe working and shopping environment. Supporting compliance with charity shop policies and retail standards.

Essential requirements



Previous experience in retail, customer service, or cash handling. Ability to work independently, including during lone working shifts. Team player with strong communication skills. Flexible and available to cover weekends, half days, and short-notice shifts. Friendly, approachable, and customer-focused. Passion for wildlife and the work of New Arc.

Desirable



Experience working in a charity shop environment. Experience working with volunteers. Knowledge of EPOS till systems. Awareness of Gift Aid procedures. Driver with access to a vehicle and ability to travel between shops as required.

Hours & Location



Location: Dyce Charity Shop (with occasional cover at our Ellon shop).Hours: Part-time, worked on a flexible rota including weekends, half-days, and cover shifts.

Pay



Paid at least the National Minimum/Living Wage for over 18s (currently 12.21 per hour for ages 21+ and 8.60 per hour for ages 18-20).
