The role of Support Worker with adults with learning disabilities:-
To promote independence
To develop skills and abilities
To advocate for service users
To aid integration and increase social value
To raise profile in the community and by example give positive view
To be a role model for appropriate behaviour
Key Purpose:-
To work within the guidelines and policies of Frontier Support Services to make certain that the above statements are met.
Report to:
Area/Deputy Area Managers
Service User:-
To participate in developing Person Centred Plans for the service user
To support service users in their daily living skills
To support service users in both their recreational and therapeutic activities
To participate in the monthly review of a service users engagement in activities
To participate in the monthly review of service users risk assessments, both clinical and generic
To participate in the 6 monthly review of a service users Person Centred Plan
To support service users in maintaining relationships and contact with the significant people in their lives, such as family and friends
To be responsible for communicating to all service users the information on their service contracts
To give service users clear guidance on how they might make a complaint
General:-
To provide both written and verbal information as requested by senior members of staff to ensure the daily maintenance of all record keeping
To report all incidents to senior staff
To know and work within the policies and procedures of Frontier Support Services
Personal:-
To participate in monthly supervision with their Compliance Manager
To participate each year in the appraisal and development scheme
To participate in training opportunities when identified
To read articles and journals with regard to new developments within the learning disability field
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Support Worker
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:-
To have the ability to participate in developing and implementing an individual's Person Centred Plan
To have the ability to participate in developing and implementing both clinical and generic risk assessments
To have the ability to communicate with service users who may have communication difficulties
To have the ability to work with an individual's parents and friends
To have the ability to work with outside agencies such as an individual's care manager or specialist healthcare professionals
To be able to work flexibly and at times work unsocial hours
To have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience:-
To have previous work experience. It is desirable to have worked in the field of learning disabilities through paid employment, volunteer or personal experience
It is desirable to have knowledge of supported living, Person Centred Plans, 'Valuing People (2000)' and challenging behaviour
It is desirable to have or be working towards NVQ level 2
