Bright Sparks is a Good-rated nursery dedicated to giving children a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment. We support families with a wide range of needs and maintain a warm, well-kept setting for children to explore and learn. We are now seeking a practical, reliable and friendly Part-Time Caretaker to help keep our nursery maintained to a high standard.

The Role

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly. You'll carry out small repairs, maintain the garden and outdoor play areas, and help keep our building safe and child-friendly.

You'll be a key part of making the environment safe, secure and welcoming for children, families and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs inside the nursery (cupboards, fixtures, door catches, childproofing, loose fittings, etc.) Complete basic carpentry tasks -- ideal for someone confident with wooden structures Maintain outdoor wooden play equipment, fencing, planters and outdoor resources Keep the garden tidy, safe and well presented (weeding, sweeping, seasonal upkeep) Check the premises regularly for any hazards or repairs needed Ensure outdoor areas are safe for children, including sanding/repairing worn surfaces Support with putting together or fixing furniture and equipment as needed Report any larger jobs requiring external contractors (plumbing, electrics, roof work, etc.) Assist with occasional moving or lifting of equipment

What We're Looking For

Strong practical skills, especially DIY and basic carpentry Someone reliable, trustworthy and able to work independently Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach Friendly and professional, comfortable working in a childcare environment Physically able to carry out maintenance and outdoor tasks Understanding of health & safety expectations around children (or willingness to learn) Flexible with hours when needed (e.g. urgent repairs or contractor access) Willing to undertake any required training (e.g. safeguarding basics)
