County Durham - primarily in the South and West of the region, including Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor, Langley Park and Barnard Castle. Staff do not need to live in these areas but must be able to travel to them.

About the Role:
Learning a New Way CIC is looking for caring, reliable individuals to join our team and provide 1:1 support for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in their communities.
This role supports not just the children, but their families too - helping them feel confident, reassured, and included while giving their child the opportunity to build independence, confidence and skills in a safe and positive way.
You'll be someone who:
Builds trust and rapport with children and young people
Can respond to children's emotions and behaviours with empathy and patience
Is comfortable working independently and flexibly in community-based settings
Can support a child's development in line with personalised goals
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide safe, high-quality 1:1 care and support to children/young people with SEND
Build positive relationships based on trust, respect and clear communication
Work towards agreed outcomes, supporting social, emotional and independence development
Maintain consistent boundaries and routines
Work in line with safeguarding and data protection policies
Liaise professionally with families and line managers, keeping records as required
Promote inclusion, confidence and wellbeing through fun, engaging activities
Represent Learning a New Way CIC values at all times
Essential Experience and Skills:
Experience supporting children/young people with SEND (professional, voluntary or personal)
Understanding that all behaviour is communication
A child-centred and inclusive approach
Confidence working independently
Good communication skills
Basic literacy and organisational skills
Reliable, punctual, and professional
Commitment to safeguarding and equality
Desirable:
Experience in social care, education, youth work or similar fields
First aid certificate
Knowledge of autism, ADHD, or other specific conditions
Experience managing behaviours in a positive, trauma-informed way
Requirements:
Must have access to own transport and be willing to travel to different locations
Must be available for weekly hours outside of school time, including afterschool and weekends
Enhanced DBS check required (can be arranged through us if not already held)
