Established residential property business needs qualified legal / paralegal to handle existing legal cases., draft tenancy and contractor agreements, and create framework for handling landlord and tenant issues arising from Renters Rights Act when it comes in.
To be successful, you need deep understanding of UK Court process, multitude of legislative experience around residential tenancies, and solid overview of RRB.
If you are based along M62 Corridor, you may be asked to attend Court. Alternatively you will be expected to brief Advocates.
Commercial tenancy knowledge is an added bonus but not a requirement.
Clear and precise communication skills are a prerequisite, as is the ability to work as part of a team and to contribute in areas outside of the legal remit.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of housing and other legal matters, including:
Issuing notices under Possession proceedings;
Handling tenancy enforcement and anti-social behaviour cases;
Managing rent increase challenges to First Tier Tribunal;
Assessing and managing disrepair and property condition claims;
Drafting and review tenancy agreements, notices, pleadings, and other legal documents;
Drafting contractor agreements;
Briefing, instructing and managing external advocates;
Providing clear, practical legal advice to property management team;
Reviewing Business policies eg GDPR;
Redrafting employment contracts in line with employment rights legislation;
Developing policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks relating to housing law and Renters Rights Act;
Monitoring further changes in legislation and case law, ensuring business adapts policies accordingly;
Maintaining accurate records and management information.
Experience
A qualified solicitor, paralegal or barrister with relevant experience in the legal field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), good general IT skills to use our property management software
Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
Demonstrated organisational skills to maintain detailed case files and documentation
This is a new position and we are expecting to need someone for 3 mornings a week (15 to 20 hours a week). However, we can be flexible with which days and times as long as there is overlap with the lettings team.
The salary shown will be pro-rated depending on the hours and rate agreed.
