Part-Time Maintenance & Decorating Operative

Hours:

16-20 hours per week (flexible)

Location:

Primarily Wesley House, with occasional cover at Asbury Overseas House

Reporting to:

General Manager

Purpose of the Role

This role is primarily focused on painting, decorating, and presentation works across the properties to maintain a high standard of finish in bedrooms and communal areas. The postholder will also carry out general maintenance tasks and support the Maintenance team with repairs and projects as required.

Key Responsibilities

Painting & Decorating

Carry out painting, redecorating, and touch-up works in bedrooms, corridors, and communal areas. Prepare surfaces, including filling, sanding, and making good prior to decorating. Support room refreshes and turnaround works between occupancies.

Maintenance Duties

Undertake basic maintenance tasks including minor plumbing, joinery, fixtures, and fittings. Support reactive repairs and small installations when required. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and materials.

Health, Safety & Site Standards

Carry out work in line with health & safety requirements and internal procedures. Keep work areas safe, clean, and tidy at all times. Report defects or issues requiring specialist contractors.

General Duties

Collect materials and supplies from hardware stores when required. Assist with larger maintenance or refurbishment projects alongside colleagues or contractors. Help maintain external areas to ensure walkways remain safe and presentable.

On-Call Cover (Occasional)

Participate in an evening and weekend on-call rota as required. Call-outs paid in addition to contracted hours.
Person Specification

Essential:

Experience in painting and decorating and/or general property maintenance. Practical, reliable, and able to work independently. Flexible approach to supporting wider maintenance needs.

Desirable:

Experience in residential or student accommodation. Skills in basic plumbing, joinery, or general repairs. Awareness of health & safety and compliance requirements.

Pay: 13.10-14.44 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 20 per week
