Locations: Derby & Nottingham Hours: 12-20 hrs/week, flexible (evenings, late nights & weekends
included) Contract Type: Permanent, Part-Time Salary: Competitive, based on experience
About Us We're a growing independent business with two well-established liquor stores - one in
Derby and the other in Nottingham. We're passionate about premium spirits, great customer
service, and doing things properly. Whether someone's looking for a gift bottle of whisky or just a
quick restock for the weekend, we take pride in offering a friendly, professional service with real
product knowledge to back it up.
We're expanding our team, and if you're someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, takes
pride in doing things well, and has an interest in drinks and retail, this could be a great fit.
The Role As a Retail Assistant, you'll be the face of the shop. Alongside helping customers find
their ideal bottle, you'll also be preparing freshly made in-store drinks like cocktails. These are
made to order and served on the spot, so a steady hand, attention to detail, and a clean,
professional approach are key. If you've got experience mixing drinks or working behind a bar or
cafe counter - or you're just someone who takes pride in doing things well - we'd love to hear from
you.
This isn't just a job where you stand behind a till - our customers value knowledgeable service.
Being familiar with different categories of alcohol (or keen to learn) is essential. Whether it's craft
beer, whisky, rum, or wine, your interest and attention to detail will go a long way.
Because our shops stay open until late (sometimes as late as 2am), you'll need to be comfortable
with late-night shifts. We also need reliable cover for key seasonal trading dates such as Christmas,
New Year, and Easter, as these are some of our busiest times.
Though rare, we may occasionally ask you to work at our other location (Derby or Nottingham), so
some flexibility with travel is appreciated.
What You'll Be Doing - Welcoming customers and offering excellent service - Helping people
choose the right products based on their needs or taste - Operating the till and handling
transactions accurately - Preparing and serving freshly made drinks such as cocktails - Restocking
shelves and assisting with deliveries - Keeping the store tidy, safe, and well-presented - Checking
IDs and following legal age verification policies (Challenge 25)
What We're Looking For - A genuine interest in drinks and the wider alcohol industry - especially
spirits, wines or craft beer - Comfortable speaking with customers and offering product advice -
Experience or confidence preparing made-to-order drinks in a clean, professional way - Able to
work evenings, late nights, weekends, and key seasonal trading periods - 18+ (legal age
requirement for alcohol retail) - Reliable, punctual, and professional - Willing to be flexible if
occasionally needed at our other location
Ideal Candidate This role would suit someone with: - Previous retail, hospitality or barista/bar
experience - A customer-first mindset - An eye for detail and pride in their work - Enthusiasm for
learning more about drinks and how to talk about them
Our current team is close-knit, and we've found the role often appeals to women who enjoy a lively,
customer-facing environment - but what matters most is your attitude, professionalism, and
willingness to learn.
You don't need to know everything - but a working knowledge of common product types (and a
willingness to keep learning) is important. Our regulars often ask for advice, and being able to make
good recommendations makes a big difference. Why Work With Us? We believe in building a workplace where people are respected, supported,
and given the chance to grow. We run things properly - no cutting corners, no micro-managing, and
no unnecessary corporate fluff. Just a small, tight-knit team doing good work.
You'll be joining a business that's expanding, and if you're a reliable team player with a genuine
interest in what we do, there's room to develop with us over time.
Application Process To apply, please send: - Your CV, and - A brief cover letter explaining a bit
about who you are, your availability, and why this role interests you.
Applications without a cover letter may not be considered.
Equal Opportunities We're an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applications from all
backgrounds and communities. What matters most to us is your attitude, reliability, and enthusiasm
for the role.
