Job Description

Pastoral and Attendance Lead

Grade 7 30,024 - 33,699 pro rata

Full Time, Term Time Only

Permanent

Required as soon as possible

Are you passionate about making a difference?

Do you possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills?

Do you want to be part of a happy, strong, committed and aspirational team?

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as an Attendance and Pastoral Support Officer.

This role is central to ensuring that young people, especially those facing attendance challenges, receive the best possible education and support to reach their full potential.

This role will involve offering support to the school in relation to the attendance and pastoral welfare of pupils, to improve attendance and parental engagement.

This will include liaising with families, carrying out home visits, organising and delivering drop-in sessions for parents and carers and building a relationship with pupils and parents/carers to ensure that attendance is optimised.

We therefore require someone with excellent people skills, coupled with a calm but firm manner, to enable effective relationships to be forged with our children and their families, collaborating with them in school and off-site.

The successful candidate should be self-motivated and well organised; able to work under pressure and have a high level of personal drive to identify and break down any barriers impacting pupil attendance. A willingness and desire to help raise aspirations, despite sometimes challenging behaviour and a lack of engagement is also essential.

You should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of safeguarding procedures in education and have excellent literacy and numeracy skills, alongside a competency in ICT.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Applicants must hold a qualification that meets the approved full and relevant criteria for Early Years qualifications and inclusion in staffing ratios.

Application details are attached to this advertisement, and can be returned via westcornforth@durhamlearning.net or by post to the address below.

Closing date:

3rd November 2025

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and, if successful, you will need to apply for an enhanced DBS disclosure.

As a disability confident employer, we are committed to employing disabled people and people with health conditions making reasonable adjustments to support disabled applicants when required.

Standard term time only pay is calculated on the basis of the following:

Number of teaching weeks - 38 weeks; plus Public (bank) holidays - 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)

Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:

Calculation for employees with less than 5 years service:

38 weeks (term time) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 45 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments

Calculation for employees with more than 5 years service:

38 weeks (term time) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 46 weeks pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
