Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS)
Grade 6: Salary in the range of 35,681-41,636 per annum (pro rata) with a discretionary range up to 42,794 per annum (pro rata). This is a part time (80% FTE), fixed term position for 12 months.
We are seeking to recruit a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Coordinator who will support NDORMS PPI groups (OPEN ARMS), which is made up of members representing patient groups. This group provides advice to the department on how to improve engagement with patients and the public, reduce barriers and increase the diversity of involvement and participation in research activities.
In this role, you will support the development, implementation and review of PPI strategies for NDORMS, taking into account priorities, project requirements, timescales and resources as well as support the development and implementation of appropriate methods for evaluation of the PPI strategies, monitor and analyse the results. You will plan and deliver effective and timely PPI activity in line with the Department's strategic aims, including setting up structures to facilitate PPI as well as provide input to discussions within the PPI Committee on PPI strategy and PPI development. You will also support the development and maintenance of relationships with diverse groups of patients and carers, in particular general practice patient participation groups, patient and carer organisations, third sector organisations, faith organisations and other stakeholders in the local health and social care economy, such as Healthwatch.
You must be educated to degree level or equivalent and have first-hand experience in PPI or a PPI related role. You must demonstrate an ability to support a range of successful PPI strategies and activities, and have broad interpersonal skills to work with patients and the public; health care professionals; NHS management; academics; and researchers. You will have the capacity to work independently; problem-solve; handle multiple projects; and exercise good judgment in an organised and professional manner together with a flexible approach to working and a desire to develop knowledge.
An undergraduate or higher degree in the medical science and experience of working in higher education are desirable.
