At Sheffield Forgemasters we have an exciting opportunity for a Patternmaker to join our team.


This role is based at our 64-acre site, sitting in the heart of Sheffield.


As a Patternmaker, you will create precision patterns using traditional patternmaking techniques that are suitable to mould within our foundry department to produce a steel casting.

What you'll be doing:

Constructing, modifying and repairing patterns used in the sand casting process. Producing full-scale patterns using traditional patternmaking techniques. Using both 2D drawings and 3D models to build high-precision patterns that meet strict engineering specifications withstanding the rigors of large-scale industrial production for castings. Working with a variety of materials, including timber, plywood, model board, and resins. Operating machinery and power tools safely and effectively. Undertaking exciting opportunities for personal and technical development using technologies in robotic machining and large-scale 3D printing. Collaborating with CNC operators to improve efficiency and ensure quality. Repairing and refurbishing existing pattern equipment to SPI standards. Supporting with storage, packaging, and occasional joinery needs using woodworking skills.

About You:

Apprentice trained Patternmaker. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings. Experience working with relevant machinery with a good understanding of the casting process. Experience in CNC machining (3, 5 and 6-axis systems) and working within a foundry pattern shop environment. Exposure to large-format 3D printing (LFAM). FLT and pendant crane operation experience. A strong understanding of Health & Safety practices. Flexibility to adapt to different tasks and project demands. Excellent teamwork, communication, and self-motivation skills. Good IT skills.

The Working Pattern

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week:

07:00 - 15:00 Monday- Thursday 06:00 - 13:00 Friday

Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting where applicants must typically have 5 - 10 years of continuous residency in the UK depending on the vetting level required for the role, to allow for meaningful security vetting checks.
