A4G are looking for a Payroll and Self-Assessment Specialist with at least two years' experience in practice to join our team. In this role, you will take full responsibility for processing payrolls and preparing self-assessment returns accurately and efficiently for a portfolio of clients, ensuring HMRC deadlines and compliance requirements are met.

Key responsibilities
Payroll
Calculate PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, and other statutory deductions
Converting clients from different software packages
Setting up employers and automating payrolls using Employment Hero
Completing and processing weekly or monthly payroll checklists
Emailing payslips and reports to employees and directors
Prepare and submit RTI returns to HMRC including FPS and EPS submissions
Handle P45s, and P11D administration
Processing leavers, tax code changes, and year-end P60 distribution
Uploading pension contributions and handling auto-enrolment duties
Completing Declarations of Compliance with the Pensions Regulator
Offboarding payroll clients and managing PAYE scheme closures
Contacting HMRC and pension providers for various compliance and support issues
Respond to payroll queries and resolve discrepancies
Supporting payroll year-end tasks and preparation for the new tax year
Self-Assessment
Prepare and submit self-assessment tax returns for individuals, sole traders, and partnerships
Calculate tax liabilities and advise on payment schedules
Identify tax planning opportunities and allowable deductions
Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients to resolve queries
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of personal tax legislation and annual changes
Provide guidance on tax-efficient strategies within current legislation
Manage client deadlines and ensure timely submission of returns
Key Attributes
2 years of practice experience, covering payroll and self-assessment
Experience using payroll software such as BrightPay, Employment Hero, Xero, and/or Sage
Strong understanding of UK PAYE regulations and HM Revenue & Customs submission requirements
Proficient in calculation of self-assessment taxes and National insurance calculations
Understanding of RTI requirements and auto-enrolment regulations
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to apply technical knowledge practically
Confident written and verbal communication
Capable with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
