The Payroll Assistant will support the Payroll Manager in delivering an accurate and timely payroll service across all Group companies.
This role is focused on providing high-quality administrative and processing support, ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, and that all related records and compliance requirements are maintained.
The successful candidate will be organised, detail-focused, and able to manage their own workload with minimal supervision. They will play an important part in keeping the payroll function running smoothly as the company continues to grow.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Support the end-to-end processing of monthly payrolls across multiple Group entities.
Maintain accurate employee records, including new starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
Input and verify payroll data such as hours, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
Assist with pension administration, HMRC submissions, and other statutory requirements.
Reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy and consistency across systems.
Respond to employee payroll queries promptly and professionally.
Support the preparation of reports for finance and management teams.
Help maintain and improve payroll processes and documentation.
Provide cover and support for the Payroll Manager during busy periods or absence.
Handle all information with the highest level of confidentiality and compliance with GDPR.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Previous experience working within a payroll or finance environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Good understanding of payroll processes and statutory requirements (PAYE, NI, pensions, etc.).
Comfortable using payroll software and Excel.
Organised, reliable, and able to manage workload independently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Discreet and professional when handling sensitive information.
Desirable:
Experience with multi-company payrolls or group structures.
Familiarity with the construction, engineering, or project-based sectors.
Experience with payroll systems such as Sage, Xero, or similar.
