We are a dynamic and growing group of companies operating across hospitality and catering, all headquartered in the iconic

Coal Exchange Hotel

in Cardiff Bay. We're looking to scale the team and bring Payroll in-house and are therefore looking for a

Payroll Officer

to take full ownership of payroll processing across the group.

Role Overview



As our Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for managing end-to-end payroll operations across multiple entities within the group. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a strong eye for detail, excellent time management skills, and a proactive attitude toward continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities



Manage the full payroll cycle on a weekly and monthly basis for all group companies.

Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee wages, including salaried, hourly, and casual staff.

Maintain and update payroll records, timesheets, and employee data.

Liaise with department managers to ensure all payroll changes (new starters, leavers, promotions, deductions, etc.) are processed accurately.

Administer statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, SPP, and handle PAYE and NI contributions.

Ensure compliance with HMRC regulations and submit RTI and other statutory filings on time.

Reconcile payroll accounts and assist finance team with month-end reporting.

Manage pension submissions and liaise with pension providers.

Respond to employee queries relating to payroll and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Keep up to date with payroll legislation and ensure ongoing compliance.

Assist with audits related to payroll.

Key Skills & Experience



Proven experience of 3 + years in payroll processing, preferably within the hospitality or multi-entity environment. Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC requirements. Proficiency in payroll software (Ideally BrightPay or similar) and timesheet processing. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Good working knowledge of accounting principles and payroll journal entries. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines. Excellent organisational and communication skills. Discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.

Desirable



Experience working within a hotel or catering business.

Familiarity with pension auto-enrolment and benefits administration.

A relevant qualification in payroll (e.g. CIPP or equivalent) is a plus, but not essential.
