About the role:
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a skilled and experienced Payroll Officer and HR Assistant to join our team to support the smooth running of our UK payroll for GAH and assist with HR related duties. This is a great opportunity for someone experienced in payroll to join a supportive and collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and process end-to-end monthly payroll for all staff using Pegasus Opera 3. Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, and other payments and deductions.
Accurately prepare payroll data and maintain employee records and documentation including personal details, tax information and pay rates.
Verify employee time and attendance records, resolving timesheet discrepancies and errors.
Ensure accurate deductions for taxes, insurance, pensions and other benefits, in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
Strong knowledge of payroll processes including PAYE, NI, SSP, SMP, SPP, student loans, pensions (including auto-enrolment), DEA processing.
Address and resolve employee enquiries relating to payroll, including pay discrepancies, deductions and benefits. Respond to queries from external agencies.
Handle sensitive payroll information with discretion and in accordance with data protection laws and company confidentiality policies.
Prepare and file reports relating to payroll, including HMRC RTI reporting files (FPS, EPS and P32), pension files etc. Assist in year-end processes.
Process onboarding and offboarding of employees.
Provide documentation/data during internal and external audits.
Provide HR administration support.
Maintain MID and insurance records for the company fleet of vehicles.
Skills and Experience Required
1-2 years previous experience in payroll (experience with Pegasus Opera 3 is preferred but not essential as full training will be given on our payroll software).
CIPP level 2 or qualifications in bookkeeping or accountancy is an advantage.
GCSE grade 5 or above in Maths and English.
Knowledge of payroll processes, regulations and laws.
Strong computer skills, in particular Microsoft excel. Confident handling of data and spreadsheets.
Excellent verbal and written communication with strong numerical skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in calculations and data entry.

High level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive personal and financial information.
Good time management and reliability to process payroll within strict deadlines. Ability to adapt quickly to short notice changes or urgent issues and remains professional and calm under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
