The Opportunity
We are seeking a Payroll & Pensions Officer to support the Senior Payroll and Pensions Officer in delivering accurate and timely monthly payroll and pensions services. This role is vital in ensuring compliance, minimising risks, and providing a high-quality financial service across the Force.
You will work closely with colleagues across directorates, liaise with third-party suppliers, and contribute to the smooth running of payroll and pensions operations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide specialist payroll and pensions advice in line with legislation, police regulations, and corporate policy.
Process payroll and pensions calculations for police staff, officers, office holders, and volunteers, including:
Absence-related calculations (sickness, child-related leave, industrial action, career breaks)
Salary enhancements and statutory payments
Taxable benefit and pensions benefit calculations
Annual pension benefit statement returns
Automatic enrolment assessments
Statistical returns and third-party recharges
Run and review payroll system outputs and reports, ensuring accuracy and recommending corrective actions.
Deliver payroll and pensions reports to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Assist with audits, governance inspections, and statutory year-end activities (tax and pensions).
Provide support and advice to colleagues via the People Services help desk.
What We're Looking For
Previous payroll and pensions experience
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Team player with collaborative working skills
High level of IT proficiency
GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent in Maths and English
