Job Description

Central and South Knowsley PCN is recruiting Pharmacy Technicians as part of the transition to a directly employed PCN pharmacy team.
These ARRS-funded roles will be employed by Roby Medical Centre and work across up to two PCN practices. Pharmacy Technicians will support safe, efficient medicines systems and work closely with Clinical Pharmacists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
The role operates within a clear governance and clinical supervision framework, led by senior PCN pharmacists, with defined scope, support, and development opportunities.
Contract: Fixed Term, subject to continhued ARRS Funding
Hours: Full Time or Part Time considered
Start Date: 1st April 2026
Base: Across up to two GP Practices within the PCN
Main duties of the job

  • Support repeat prescribing systems and medicines optimisation processes.
  • Undertake medicines reconciliation, including for patients moving between care settings.
  • Support medication reviews and patient-facing medicines optimisation activities, within scope of practice.
  • Contribute to patient safety audits, incentive schemes, and PCN prescribing priorities.
  • Support antimicrobial stewardship and high-risk medicines monitoring.
  • Act as a key point of contact for prescription-related queries, supporting practice teams.
  • Use EMIS and other clinical systems accurately and consistently.
Work collaboratively across practices, community pharmacy, and PCN teams.

Undertake patient-facing activities to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making discussions with patients
Medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicines administration (eg checking inhaler techniques)
Patient safety audits and incentive scheme actions, as directed
Support medication reviews and medicines reconciliation, including for new care home patients. Where required, utilise consultation skills to work in partnership with patient to ensure they use their medicines effectively
Synchronise medicines for patients transferring between care settings and link them with local community pharmacists as appropriate
Provide specialist expertise, where competent, to address both the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling health inequalities
Support clinical pharmacists with shared care protocols
Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship to reduce inappropriate antibiotic prescribing

Essential
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in Pharmaceutical Science (or GPhC-recognised equivalent)
  • Successful completion of the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy
  • Technician Pathway (or relevant CPPE pathway), or at least 80% completed at the point of application
  • Applicants must clearly evidence completion status. Applications that do not meet this requirement will not be shortlisted
