Peatland Action Project Support Officer

Salary: \xc2\xa328,488 - \xc2\xa333,276 (Band C) per annum
Contract: Permanent Full Time - we are happy to talk part-time and flexible working
Location: Balloch, with hybrid working model in place

The role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Peatland Action Project Support Officer to join our Nature and Land Use team to provide project delivery and management support for Peatland ACTION projects delivered by the National Park Authority. This is a rare opportunity to help secure a positive future for people, nature, and climate in the National Park through our work to restore nature and reduce carbon emissions by helping to heal damaged peatlands.

With excellent organisational skills, you will have a proven track record in project management, budget planning and financial processes, the capacity to undertake site visits to remote upland areas, experience of field survey work and liaison with land managers and contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated high standard project delivery and management support for projects within the National Park Authority s peatland restoration programme including project initiation, monitoring, and reporting, procurement and budgetary control and risk management.
  • Working within existing project management systems, toolkits, and budgeting and financial systems, working closely with the project management and finance teams to ensure an organisational approach.
  • Ensure effective communication between internal and external teams to enable efficient and effective budget planning, project delivery and reporting.
  • Provide advice and guidance on matters relevant to project management, contributing to more effective project management practises across the National Park Authority.
  • Planning and commissioning surveys including peat depth, breeding birds and habitat types to support the development of peatland restoration projects.
  • Undertaking field work and site visits on remote upland sites to contribute to surveys and liaison with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the provision and logistics for equipment and vehicles for field work.
  • Assist others in establishing and enabling the necessary partnerships and engagements to deliver partnership projects which achieve strategic objectives.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
Who we are looking for:

Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
  • Project support experience throughout the project lifecycle; project initiation, planning, procurement, delivery, closure, and monitoring.
  • Experience of practical implementation of a project management methodology and procedures.
  • Experience of managing contractors.
  • Ability to manage a wide range of tasks concurrently.
  • Ability to work in remote locations and navigate across challenging upland terrain in all weathers.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at every level including senior management, external agencies, contractors, members of the public and local communities.
  • HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a land management/ environmental management/agriculture/forestry/nature conservation discipline, or equivalent experience.
Ideally, but not essential, you ll also have:
  • Direct experience of project work in a rural context
  • Experience of capital project delivery
  • Experience of land manager liaison
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Project
  • Botanical, bird, or habitat survey experience
  • Licensed UAV pilot
