WTW's Pension Technical Unit is a team of pension SMEs providing strategic advice and implementation support to shape the future of retirement provision.
We are looking for a
Pensions Technical Adviser
to join our team of Pension SMEs who help clients navigate evolving challenges in DB and DC schemes driven by changing policies, legislation, and market developments.
The Role
Work within the WTW Pensions Technical Unit, on legislative requirements affecting occupational and personal pension arrangements
Sharing the main responsibilities of that unit with the other Pensions Technical Advisers
Taking full responsibility for updating the content of the intranet material, ensuring that it is logically structured and easily accessible
Analysing new legislation, court cases and changes to practice to establish what is new and what needs further investigation
Writing summaries of new developments for consultants and clients
Providing a telephone, email and face-to-face enquiry service and yet still giving priority to the updating work
Keeping up to date on current developments outside areas of specialism
Writing WTW publications, internal and external headlines, blog posts and articles for external media as required
Taking part in internal and external seminars.
At WTW, we trust you to know your work and the people, tools and environment you need to be successful. The majority of our colleagues work in a "hybrid" style, with a mix of remote, in-person and in office interactions dependent on the needs of the team, role and clients. Our flexibility is rooted in trust and "hybrid" is not a one-size-fits-all solution. We understand flexibility is key to supporting an inclusive and diverse workforce and so we encourage requests for all types of flexible working as well as location-based arrangements. Please speak to your recruiter to discuss more.
Qualifications
------------------
The Requirements
A fascination for detail. An ability to get to grips with impossibly detailed legislative and other requirements and yet to distinguish the wood from the trees
An understanding of legislation and a detailed knowledge of DWP, HMRC, TPR, PPF and other government departments' requirements for occupational, master trust and personal pension arrangements
A willingness, and the intellectual ability, to widen that knowledge to areas outside the area of specialism, including the EU legislative material
An analytical ability when examining new legislation or other requirements to determine issues that need to be clarified; what has been changed (and why) and where problems may be lurking
The facility to link separate pieces of information from different sources, to produce a composite picture (ie an intellectual jigsaw addict)
Research ability, coupled with a desire to find the answers in source documents, rather than relying on third-party publications, articles etc
An ability to simplify complex material whilst remaining accurate
Good drafting skills
Good oral communication skills
A clear understanding of the limits to his or her knowledge and a willingness to say that he or she does not know the answer; do the necessary research into legislation to find the answer; seek help if this fails; and inform consultant or client that everything is not black and white
An ability to prioritise several conflicting priorities under pressure and to take responsibility
Good organisation of both self and others
A logical mind, with the ability to structure and organise material in an intuitive and easily comprehensible manner
Public speaking skills
Congeniality and ability to work within a small specialist team.
