What will be your role in the company?



As the Performance Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of safety, reliability, planning, and technical support at the depot, covering both corrective works and maintenance activities. Your duties include overseeing fleet performance, generating client reports, and conducting defect analysis to maintain and improve the safety and reliability of passenger service vehicles within a continuous improvement framework.



You will serve as the primary liaison with CAF Spain's Aftersales Engineering Department (DIP), ensuring effective coordination and tracking of Engineering and Maintenance Change Requests (WECR and MCR). Your role will also involve leading technical discussions with DIP and OEM representatives, when applicable, to ensure appropriate actions are taken to support contractual reliability and availability targets.



The role may require occasional travel within the UK and Europe to engage with other CAF projects or suppliers.



Your daily duties will include:


Monitor and report on fleet and materials performance, developing methods to enhance reliability and conducting detailed trend analysis of vehicle systems and component failures using GMAO, LeadMind, or other data sources. Oversee and participate in regular reviews of in-service failures and vehicle availability, ensuring regular assessment of defective materials/systems to establish root causes. Liaise with DIP and suppliers to ensure proper remedy actions. Develop relationships with suppliers where applicable to promptly address material or technical issues. Provide support for Safety Related Defects (SRDs) management, ensuring the project tracker is maintained and updated regularly. Provide general materials engineering support and technical problem solving for production and procurement departments. Manage and support the Engineering and Maintenance Change process, especially concerning potential Epidemic/Systematic Failures, and propose mitigation measures in coordination with CAF Spain DIP and OEM where applicable. Collaborate closely with the Fleet Planning Manager by prioritizing repairs, modifications, and campaigns, and providing all the necessary technical support and documentation to the Production Team. Generate detailed technical reports on significant safety and technical faults and manage the production and updating of reliability and availability data to assist and represent CAF in customer meetings. Oversee, coordinate, and support all activities of the team reporting to this role, ensuring full cooperation and alignment with the Project LEO (Lider de Excelencia Operativa), and contributing to improvement initiatives within the RSNEXT programme or future programmes. Maintain close cooperation with LeadMind team partners and foster strong working relationships with Rail Services After Sales Engineering and other Performance Engineers and Managers within CAF Rail UK.

What salary will you be paid for this position?




As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary of 70,000 per annum.

What will make you successful in this position?




To succeed in this role, you will need:


Minimum Level 6 qualification (bachelor's degree or equivalent) in an engineering-related discipline. Equivalent qualifications with substantial relevant experience may also be considered. Experience in a systems reliability and performance related role. Experience in an engineering environment is required, experience in the rolling stock industry will be highly appreciated. PC competent with the ability to learn new software programmes and systems quickly. Direct contact with OEMs in the context of technical problem resolution. Proven experience in planning, organising, and staff management. Experience writing and analysing technical reports, particularly, but not limited to, Failure Analysis Reports.
