Job Description

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES



Provide hands-on technical support for performing art lessons, technical rehearsals, school performances/productions, and school events, including set-up, operation, lighting (including rigging), sound, projection, and video editing, to a consistently high standard. Work closely with performing arts staff and students ensuring technical needs are met, during lessons, rehearsals, performances and effective in contributing to high quality teaching and learning. Supports staff and students in film and music production, instrumental skills, music software and technical skills. Provide technical training, guidance and support to staff and students on the use of media technologies, specialist core equipment, and relevant theatre technology, including lighting rigs, microphones, AV equipment, and computer-based software. Assist and support the performing arts department with internal, after school/evening and external events including the recording of school performances. Liaise, coordinates and supports external agencies used for school productions and performances. Organise and assist with the maintenance, organisation, and inventory of all technical equipment, media-based hardware and software and that licensing requirements are met. Manages and develops the digital studio and editing suite. Overseas the running of the school theatre. You may be required to complete any other reasonable duties as directed by your Line Manager / Headteacher within the responsibilities/grade of the post.

Student Support



Work directly with students in lessons to support student learning, develop technical / design requirements for their performance assessment/examination and other performances including sets/rigging/lights/sound/projection/special effects and video footage/images. Assists in the development and regular supervision of students/student technical teams involved in performing arts event productions and GCSE Exam performances. Responsible for filming and editing footage and final performance evidence for moderations and GCSE examinations. Editing music tracks for the school dance show and year 11 choreography, including one-to-one meetings with students during breaks/after school. Responsible for filming and editing video footage for PE Component work and moderation. Assist the performing arts staff in the instruction of technical elements of examination specifications. Responsible for the recording and maintaining a catalogue (video/audio) of students' work for assessments/exam submissions and school performances and subsequent editing and copying. Responsible for maintain digital archives of students work.

Health and Safety



Ensure that all technical operations comply with school policies and health and safety regulations, including risk assessments for performing art activities and performances. Regularly inspect and maintain technical equipment to ensure it is safe and fit for purpose, promptly reporting any faults or issues. Promote and ensure the health and safety and good behaviour of students at all times. Promote and uphold a safe working environment for staff, students, and performers, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks. Provide training and guidance to staff and students on safe working practices, especially when operating technical theatre equipment or working at height.

Other Duties



Purchase, create or hire stage lighting, props, sound states and AV equipment and sourcing specialist aspects when required. Collaborate with other departments to facilitate the use of AV and staging equipment for school-wide events. Provide technical support for whole school presentations i.e. open evenings and assembly work when requested. Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development as required. Keep up to date with industry
