Job overview




Our MDT is highly skilled and inclusive of multiple professionals who provide specialist knowledge relating to both Mother and baby. Treatment is informed by the MBU Perinatal Specialists in the following disciplines health visitor, parent infant therapist, nurses, midwives, psychologist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist and social worker to name a few. Our roles are relevant to our training and experience, we work together using our disciplines to inform specialist high quality care. As a Perinatal specialist charge nurse you will work in partnership with the MDT and leadership team to deliver high quality, innovative specialist care.



The Kingfisher Mother & Baby Unit is 1 of 21 specialist inpatient units in the UK. Our 8 bedded unit opened in January 2019 to provide specialist assessment and treatment to women with moderate to severe mental health conditions from 3rd trimester antenatally up to 12 months post-natal. It is widely recognised that keeping mother and baby together improves mental health outcomes for both mother and infant. The care delivered within the mother and baby unit is aimed at improving the outcomes of future generations



We are looking to expand our team and have an opportunity for an permanent Nurse within our nursing team. The position is offered on a permanent basis.


Main duties of the job




We are looking to recruit a motivated and passionate leading nurse. This position comes with a guaranteed training offer of Tavistock and Portman Perinatal Risk management and assessment training. This training will provide a foundation and support you to transition into the role of a specialist if you are not one already. You will also receive be-spoke training on parent and infant interaction. This is the minimum training offer, as a specialist service we uniquely have access to an array of training packages and can support you to engage in professional development planning.



The ideal candidate will work across a shift pattern of days and nights, ensuring clinical care is at the forefront of practice. Including robust assessment of mother & baby, thorough documentation processes, implementing improvements in care based on evidenced based practice and national guidance.



The successful candidate will work alongside the MDT as part of the leadership team to ensure a safe and high standard of care in line with the trust values and National standards for Perinatal care. As well as supporting the wider strategic aims of the service. Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills will be required as well as the ability to demonstrate a passion for both continuity and for person centred care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities




The post holder will work supportively and collaboratively with the Clinical Team Leader in ensuring the effective management of the ward in all respects, environmental, financial and clinical insofar as this relates to nursing practice.



The post holder will undertake the planning and delivery of direct patient care with appropriate supervision, ensuring continuity of practice and working within a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency environment.



The post holder will be expected to provide a clinical lead to staff in various areas of practice, adhering to the philosophy and clinical skills base of the ward.



The post holder will monitor nursing practice on a day to day basis and ensure that nursing compliments the practice of other professionals.



The post holder will work towards implementing reviews and changes in practice at the discretion of the Clinical Team Leader.



The post holder will be required to work shifts across a 24-hour period in order to meet the needs of the service.
