Permit Technical Support Officer (Grade 5)

Hull City Council is seeking to recruit a Permit Technical Support Officer to join our busy Street Works Permit Team. The successful candidate will work within a fast-paced office environment, providing technical, administrative and systems support to the operation of the Council's Street Works Permit Scheme.

The role supports the accuracy of the Street Works Public Register and assists the Permit Team in ensuring that live works, road closures and diversion routes are correctly represented across the network.

As a Permit Technical Support Officer, you will:

Manage and update the Street Works Public Register, ensuring daily accuracy in line with approved permit applications. Plot road closures, diversion routes and high-impact traffic management arrangements, including technically complex schemes. Support the Permit Team, Senior Highway and Works Coordination Officer and Permit Manager in the coordination of street works activity. Act as an initial point of contact for street works enquiries and complaints, escalating where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

Administer and maintain street works data using systems such as Street Manager, Confirm or equivalent. Monitor and respond to correspondence relating to street works and road closures. Support meetings, reporting, data extraction and general administrative duties within the team. Liaise with internal teams, utility companies, contractors, elected members and the public as required. Ensure records and information are accurate, up to date and maintained to agreed standards.

What we're looking for:

We are seeking a well-organised, reliable and proactive individual with strong attention to detail and good ICT skills. You will be able to manage competing priorities, communicate effectively and work as part of a team. Experience in a local authority or street works environment is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.

What we offer:

An opportunity to join a supportive and knowledgeable team and play a key role in helping Hull City Council manage and coordinate works on the public highway, minimising disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Adam McArthur ( Permit Team) , Streetworks Manager on 01482 612 764 or adam.mcarthur2@hullcc.gov.uk
