We are seeking a committed, passionate and highly skilled
Personal Advisor
to support young people aged 16+ who are eligible for Leaving Care services. You will play a vital role in helping care leavers navigate their transition into adulthood by providing practical, emotional, social and financial guidance.
This role requires strong relationship-building skills, resilience, and the ability to empower young people to engage positively with education, employment, housing and wider life skills. You will act as the key professional for an allocated caseload, ensuring plans are effective, coordinated and centred around the young person's needs, aspirations and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Hold and manage an allocated caseload of young people aged 16+ who are eligible for leaving care services.
Develop effective, trusting working relationships with care leavers to motivate, guide and support them towards independence.
Provide practical, emotional, social and financial advice in line with statutory leaving care duties.
Support young people to access and maintain education, employment and training opportunities.
Ensure care leavers manage finances responsibly, including budgeting, benefits and financial entitlements.
Support young people to secure and sustain safe, suitable accommodation.
Promote the emotional well-being and resilience of young people through regular contact, planned interventions and advocacy.
Work collaboratively with social workers, schools, colleges, housing providers, health services and other professionals.
Develop, implement and regularly review Pathway Plans in partnership with young people.
Ensure risks are identified, monitored and addressed appropriately.
Maintain accurate, detailed and timely case notes, records and evidence on the relevant case management system.
Attend statutory reviews, meetings and planning sessions, providing professional input and updates.
Promote the safety, rights and voice of the young person in all aspects of practice.
Advocate for care leavers to ensure access to services, opportunities and support packages.
Respond to emergencies and concerns sensitively, professionally and in line with safeguarding policies.
Support young people to develop independence skills such as cooking, budgeting, household tasks and accessing community resources.
Provide continuity of support and act as a consistent, reliable professional presence in each young person's life.
Experience working with young people, ideally within leaving care, youth work, social care or related services.
Strong understanding of issues affecting care leavers, including housing, education, mental health and financial management.
Ability to build rapport, motivate and support young people with diverse needs and backgrounds.
Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and interpersonal.
Ability to assess needs, identify risks and develop clear, achievable plans.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied caseload.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-agency team.
Resilience, emotional maturity and a non-judgemental, supportive approach.
Competent IT skills, including use of case management systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
Desirable
Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Children (Leaving Care) Act, Children Act 1989, and related statutory guidance.
Experience supporting young people in semi-independent or supported accommodation settings.
Experience with Pathway Plans or personal planning frameworks.
