Duties:
Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T) required to provide support and companionship to a 47 year old man who lives with Down Syndrome and Type 1 Diabetes. He lives with his family in the Largs area.
Confidentiality is of utmost importance.
Social Support
You will provide social support and companionship within the local community. Continuity and consistency are very important to him.
Support required to access the local community including going for leisurely walks and out for something to eat. He has a love for music and likes to go out locally to watch bands / tribute acts. He also enjoys going to Glasgow to visit record and guitar shops.
The family are looking for applicants who are friendly, have a cheery personality and are easygoing. You must be calm and supportive with the ability to be proactive and encourage in a positive way.
It would be beneficial if applicants have similar interests so he can have good conversation about his interests and hobbies. On occasion, hours may be used for longer shifts or evenings to support him to travel further afield to go to events.
The gentleman requires daily insulin injections which will mostly be done at home as hours will normally be worked around him being home for meal times. He can read and monitor his own blood sugar levels, however on occassion would require the PA to oversee the insulin being administered. Training required (can be provided by the employer).
Experience Required
Experience of working with adults with Down Syndrome preferred. It is preferable that applicants are a driver, with current drivers licence, use of own car and business insurance. Wage rate incorporates travel allowance however mileage costs will be covered if traveling any distance for work related purposes.
The successful applicants will have to undergo a new PVG Disclosure, at the employer's expense / supply 2 reference contacts prior to appointment and undergo relevant training.
There is a 6-month probationary period attached to these posts with 1 weeks' notice within that time if the post does not work out.
